A couple of days ago I thought of a nice dio idea called: "With a little help from my friends". It`s a little scene that plays in the bocage.

A little history: The germans used to pull pianowire over the road. The idea was that every jeep that would pass it would drive further with a crew without heads. Yeah some evil tricks those germans did. That`s why a lot of Jeeps had this so called wire cutter in front of the Jeep this was to cut thos wires and nobody has a problem.

Well my dio is a story like this. A Jeep driver stands next to a wire where a White hankerchief is tied on. The hankerchief is tied there by somebody of the maquis. The Maquis guys tied it there so it would be visible to the US Soldiers. Now Engin (Graywolf) clever said why did the maquis did not cut the wire.. Because the maquis figure didn`t have wire cutters with him nor was he strong enough to untie it (The story isn`t waterproof but still a nice one me thinks) Anyways here is a sketch of it

I hope you guys like it if you have any feedback or ideas please shout it out

Would those creatures not be long gone when the Jeep was arriving??

How are you planning on making this wire? In real life this wire would have been pretty thin. I am interested to see how you will reproduce it in 1:35 scale.

I`m not going to produce it myself. There are plenty of fishing supply manufacturers that are making wire in several thicknesses so I simply buy the thinnest wire type. Other side you can make very thin stretched sprue too.

That's a good idea for a dio Robert. I'd like to see the confused expression on the GI figure. Build on.

Cool! I love the concept. I'll wait for this to come out! For the wire, you could use copper wires. Buy the thinnest stranded one (the type of wire that is made up of strands). Use the smallest strand ro replicate the wire.

A good scaling would be by checking out a real piano wire. Hold it and then compare it with the kit's hand. The kit's hand should only touch the same amount you've touched on a real wire.

I realize that there are many wires to chose from. I was more concerned with keeping things true to life as far as scale goes. How thick do you think the wire is in real life, vs. what is available in 1:35 scale to make it true dimensionally. I am not trying to nitpick, I am simply curious because I have ran into issues with scaling down i.e. barbed wire.

Try to use one thread from a womans panty hose. I use them for 1/48 scale AC antena and they're nice. They streatch and stay taught.

Its a trick getting just one. Take a 4"x4" piece of a USED to be thrown away pair of panty hose. and pin or tape two corners farthest away from you to a piece of wood or card board.

Then starting in the middle of the closest side pick your starting strand (one that is pointing away from you [near to far not left to right]) then cut the ones perpendicular to it (these are the left to right) on either side of it. I put a little flat miniature clamp on my target thread to keep it taught and 'selected' then slowly cutting each side I pull the sides away and work my way up.

Use a drop of super glue on one side let it cure then streatch it and drop the other side, be ready to hold it taught for a minute while the glue cures.

I'd also recomment some pretty big trees to tie the wire to. Don't want a 1/2 decapatation because the tree was dislodged.

I believe this is a neat idea and i told Rob i admire and also envy his sketches
just one question: isn't the jeep in wrong direction? we should see the front of the jeep if the driver sees the handkerchief and stops it.or the jeep approached the wire backwards? or i try to think 3 dimensions in a 2 dimension sketch?
see ya Rob

Mhhhhh A half Decapatation I don`t think the Germans would mind that On the other hand it will deliver some gory stuff in the dio wich I don`t want.

What is not really visible in the sketch but what is the story is that the Jeep driver stopped because he saw the Hankerchief and he has walked around to investigate. That`s why you look at the back of the Jeep.

Thanks a lot guys for the replies and comments.

i also thing that maybe some small tool set in the jeep could supply the guy with a wire cutter or somewthing like that . So there could be a co driver gettin the tool out of the jeep instructed so by the guy expecting the wire . Nice idea. Move on to it

I think its a very nice idea maybe some blood on the wire, like it already had "some job" and ofc, few broken branches when that happened

cheers

there is a risk on that Mirko. in case there was a single vehicle trapped in this and the driver killed there must be the remains of the scene . a jeep and a dead driver. if someone else was on the jeep and escaped the trap they might have remove it to protect the next comers. so maybe the blood idea is a lil on the air......

I meant on a "deeper" story.... someone got dead... some passing buy "partisan" discovered the wehicle and the body, and drived both to some base... before that he tied up a white hankchief on the wire to alarm the next victim? (this is there it must be supposed he couldnt find anything to cut the wire?)

:) it was just an idea...

how about a mine or some Hand grenades attatched at the base of the tree my dad rekons the germans were masters at booby traps. Just a point of interest the british commandos used to use that trick to get german motorcyclists.

Ola

Blood on the wire..... Mmmhh I`m personally not so fond of the gory thingys in a dio... On the other hand grenades or a mine to the tree that`s a really neat touch. Indeed the germans were fond of putting Boobytraps on everything.
Might give it a good thought.

Thanks for the replies
