hey all
ive been away for awhile due to various problems (and my comp dying) and am happy to finally be back in the world of model making.
Id like to get a foot in the door by doing a standard ootb armor kit, german, ww2. but which would be best? Im not fussed as to complexity, but id love to do a good quality kit to get me back into the habit, before i start doing more complex things again like dio's.
any opinions? :-)
cheers for now

Hi Alpha-1-7-0,
Although I've yet to build any, I've heard that the latest Tamiya releases are very good quality and have good fit. These would be the Panthers, Tigers and Marders. Not sure as to what else they may have out there.
Regards,
Joe

Here is a suggestion: try one of the new Dragon King Tigers. You get kits that are just as good if not better than the Tamiya ones, plus individual link tracks AND PE screens for $10 less than a Tamiya kit. And they LOOK great.

Hey all
thanks for the input - ive got some kits still to one side, but i am a great fan of german ww2 armor (i know, i know, ......popular choice.... :-) ) and ideally i'd like to start off building again with a good ootb kit - im a big fan of tamiya anyway, but anymore views or choices are always a good idea
cheers

Basically all of the Tamiya WW2 armour kits are good. Hows about the Tiger 1?
They even do radio controlled model kits nowadays.
The Ardennes King Tiger would be good for a dio perhaps?

cheers muzz/propboy :-)
im thinking either tiger, or maybe even halftrack? maybe even sp gun, like a marder...decisions decisions... i do like the tamiya kits but im always open to trying other 'brands' - as for dios. well i will be getting back into those but first, a nice, quick, smooth ootb to wet my appetite, then a main course! (++)
cheers all

If you want halftracks then go with DML's Hanomags, or better Tamiya's FAMO w/c is very well-detailed even if you do it OOTB (expensive though ). If you want Tigers then you can go for either DML or Tamiya both are good builds with excellent detail. Talking about SP guns then you can safely go with the Tamiya Marders or DML Nashorn, Hummel, etc.....
Just remember, if you want good builds with good detail, just go for the new ones

For something nice and straightforward, I'd go with either a Tamiya Marder (you have two to choose from) or the Tasca PzKpfw II L "Luchs".

Go buy yourself a Tamiya JagdPanzer IV kit, then customize it into JagdPanzer IV Serie "0"!!!! That will get your blood pumping for sure!

As others have said, both the Tamiya Tiger and the Marder are great models. The marder is a little bit more challenging OOB because of the open fighting compartment.

I knew folks would have already suggested these, but they get my vote too.
I love the panthers
Well engineered, accurate, straightforward builds. Glueable rubberband tracks (no link to link and no staples/melting required.)
Loads of references and aftermarket available if the bug strikes
Simple enough paint schemes..
I might also add the Panzer IV H/J from Tamiya to the list.
I'd stay away from the DML kits since link to link is a bit off-putting at first and all their kits have them. Yes they are nice and cheaper, but that link to link is a steep learning curve.

Another one-- if you're interested in a softskin as an alternative, the Tamiya Steyr 1500/A01 (the truck, not the command car) was thus far the most-enjoyable build I've had. The lines are nice and sleek, and the parts fit is perfect, leaving you to spend as much time as you feel like adding stowage and detail.
