Hi all I'm building an Italeri Sherman calliope here and I was wondering if anyone had any pics of the bit(on the real thing) of how the bar from the rocket launcher was fitted to the gun barrel/mantlet? TIA Pete

In Kencelots first pic, note that the ring normally goes through the barrel and entire rig is raised or lowered by the gun. However when the barrel is in the ring the main gun cannot be fired because the ring prevents recoil. In the pic the bottom of the ring is welded to the mantlet so the gun can freely recoil.

You might be interested in the research I did on the development and use of rocket tanks in the MTO. Lots of technical info and unique photos from personal collections.
If you still need more pix, check these sites: http:/battletanks.com http:/battlefield.ru (on this one, go to the "Preserved in museums" option on the left side, then click on "M4A1 General Sherman. The calliope pix are #1,3,4 and 5).
