I wanted to share my Overlord 2004 entry with the dio forum. It is loosely based on the battle at Ravenoville, France on June 6th 1944, at a Farm complex.

Thanks. All the grass, flowers, and coarse turf is Woodland Scenics. I just varying shades of flock grass and pastels.

a really nice scene . Very good work on pastels , colouring and weathering. To be honest i think i d like one more element in there ,,maybe a wounded guy or some bicycle or something else in the yard to add some more interest . But its a very well executed dio . BRAVO

Beautiful! The dio looks clean with no errors! Also, the sepia tone pic adds a "history" to it!

How did you do that sepia tone pic ?
Can it be done in Photoshop or something?

I believe it's in Photoshop, but I don't know how. My cam (Canon Powershot G2) can do sepia tone pics instantly, just go through the settings.

The figures look like the DML Normandy set with a few modifications. The mohawk guy has a helmet on and the bazooka carrier has been modified to carry a rifle rather than the bazooka.

It's nicely done. the diorama structure looks great. nice work!

I thought the rules for submissions called for only one figure?

Thanks for the comments.

1. I use PhotoImpressions 4.0 by ArcSoft, it came with the PC. The tone is called old photo.

2. Ambrose82 you know your DML, they are the Normandy ones. The mohawk was sanded off and I took the helmet out of the Varsity set I had. The bazooka guy had shells removed from the haversack and puttied, as well as a carbine added. I did not like the look of this figure out of the box.

3. I see know that it said only a single figure.

Nice little dio. What did you use for the scrim on the helmets, rolled tissue?

It is a very small yarn like sewing thread, I cut to size. It was grey, I soaked it in 50/50 glue water solution, then applied to the helmet. Let sit for 24 hours and then painted multiple times until I found the colors I liked.

Purple flowers, Yellow Flowers, are sold in small packs. It is a sponge like blob, that you pull apart to get the desired look. They use it for model railroading. The rest is coarse turf, and flock grass in varying colors. Hope this helps.

There were other forum posts ( and PMs) since the original rules were set requesting a little more freedom for dioramas regarding numbers of figures and vehicles.
This entry stays as it is because:
1) To remove any of the figures would also remove the story behind the diorama.
2) It shows an occurance that will be familiar to any veteran, the care needed when entering a group of buildings.

Very nice dio you got going there ...figures look well done and you can feel the action...One big thing missing in your dio though....Where's the rubble?? Your house is destroyed but not a bit of rubble anywhere.. You might want to add a bit to the scene.

Rubble or no rubble? That was the question I asked myself. The building damage exposing the brick would be so small and dust like, and it is more wear and tear instead of direct battle or fighting damage. I did not want to have a back side to the dio, I wanted a head on prespective. I was going for more of an abandoned farm house look, that is why there farm equipment in the picture over grown with tall grass.(in the front)

True ...I guess it could just be abandoned, but doesn't that kinda take away from the idea of the "battle of D-Day"... Great dio either way ...congrats !
