Hey guys I want to build a M4A1 with the early turret that had only the the one hatchI know Formations has the turret. What about TWS they have them but without the cupola .Where can I get the early version.I am pretty sure the Calibre 35 would not do for this item.

Thanx

If you're looking for an early two-hatch commander's cupola, they are in many kits. The Italeri M4A1 has one, as well as the M32 and probably the "Marine M4A3/A2." You also get this choice in the early release of the Tamiya M4A3 (not sure about the current release, but it's probably there), plus the Tamiya M4 kit. If you get the Formations kit, it comes with a very nice correct cupola.

If you need one, I could part with one. PM me and give me your address.

Hollow,
I appreciate the offer but after ooking through my kits I beleive I will have enough.Funny story I bought two M4A1 Sherman By Italeri from Squadron. The sprue tree with the boggie trucks were totally thrashed so callled them they immiadiatly sent the replacement parts.I open the box and find a gry tree with P-51 parts???? I calle dup I sent the parts back and couple days later the box came with the tree and next day A BRAND NEW M4A1 Sherman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) So I am going to try formations kit.

Ok since I consider you you to be the almighty sherman teacher, CMD's 75mm flared barrel would that due for early sherman tanks?Maybe to replace the resin one.

Thanx

Glad your part problem was resolved with a bonus!

I'm not sure how "almighty" I am, but I can assure you that the Formations kit already has a fine flared barrel. No replacement needed. And if anything is wrong with anything in the kit, Rob will replace the part no problem.

The money might be better spent on a PE set for the Formations M4A1. If you can get Finemolds MG-10, it includes enough headlight and taillight guards for two Shermans, no matter the mark. It also has periscope guards, hatch hasps, tie-downs and a few other bits. It does not have as many parts as an Aber or Eduard set, but it has the essentials. IMHO, the Aber and Eduard sets have too many unecessary parts.

IMHO

?What do you mean?

Also so it would be wise to get the Formations kit as well as a PE set from Fine Molds.
I know the aber and eduard sets have many extras but many things I do use.Well time to shop. After I save up I am going to get my Digi Camera to show my work.

Thanx A lot

You mentioned that you wanted to build the M4A1 with the early (75mm gun) turret and one hatch. You need to realize that the Italier M4A1 kits depict the later hull (with large hatches) and the later 76mm T23 turret.

You would need the hard to find DML M4A1 75mm kit or indeed either of the Formations M4A1 conversion kits. These all have the smaller drivers' hatches. All come with single hatch turrets.

Again, have a look at my quick reference page:
