I think they were in fact intended to stop tanks and not the boats.
You are talking about those steel girders welded together right?

yeah i am, but infact they were actualy used to stop the boats becuase at the ends they had little bits of them cut out to tear the bottoms of the boats as they were coming in.
all i want to know is did the germans use these to stop tanks in land aswell as on the beach.

Element C is what you wanted to know about.
The second one ( Pieux ) is a woud stik with a mine on the end.
The tird one ( Rompes ) if i am right as the same mening tha the 1rst one.
the fourth is the one everybody knows and was the meaning to stop tanks.
Good luck with yours diio

Playing some WWII games such as Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942, some maps do have those Herrisons type barricades. I think they were still used inland (because the game does). I could be wrong...

The ML article is very good and supports the use of tank obsticles the criss cross X type (Czech hedgehogs) in land.
As in the image posted by RIMA, the element C and Rampes and Pieux were used only at the beach.

I saw a pic where the hessian was used to guard the rampway to a bridge. They were used to prevent easy access to th bridge. The obstacles were entangled in loads of barbed wire in front of a wall of sandbags with MG positions.
