I found an interesting way to make small arms shell casings.
Stretched sprue is good but the problem is to get a consistent thickness.

Instead of sprue you can use brass coloured paper clips.
Just unfold them and cut into appropriately sized pieces.
Use a dremel tool or metal saw to get a good cut.
