iam thinking a diorama, what itl be, i dont know, but il make it. i went out in my back yard, got soem sand, cleaned it out and now i want to use it as a surface for the dio iam gonna work on.
now, i love being creative and beaing cheap, so can anyone tell me what i should use to clue the sand to the board ( what should i do exactly) and is this even a good idea?

Thx in advance, Frank

Yes it will work..is it a desert dio?? To secure it to the base make a mix of white glue and water , brush on the glue mix and sprinkle on the sand. Also try to find some small stone to add more texture and variety.

PVA glue or Whit Glue as it is known is a good strong glue........Easy to use and can be watered down..........

Basically what PvtParts said.

Painting the sand no.......... But i have an alternate tecnique which I use when wanting to paint a desert scene.

Once the last layer of Tetrion/ Pollyfilla has been put on wait for it to still be damp then sprinkle on the dry / unmixed powder.

Once dry it will leave a sand like texture and give loads of little mini-rocks for you to. Just remember to put in Track prints/ Footprints and stuff too before it dries.

Then spraypaint appropriate colour, add washes to give shadowds and such and bring out detail. Then Highlight.

I wish I had a picture to show you. It works really well, especially for 1/72 stuff, For larger scales you need to ad more detail. Rocks and such.

I suggest trying this method first to see if you are happy with it. just don't paint the sand!

As for plants it would be grass types. you could always cut the bristles from a Brush. Use dried plants, Dried Sprog moss for larger bushes, look around florists shops, they might give you some for a few quid.

Other than that ask around really and keep your eyes open for anything you can use........

Hope it helps.........

Howdy 3442,

First, a warm welcome to Armorama is in order.

Now....to your question.

Both PvtParts and Longshanks (even though I hate to agree with someone named after a radio host I loath, and a King I loath almost as much ) are correct on the white glue application. And Longshanks (god.....I still find it hard to agree.... ) is guiding you properly and sharing good advice.
If I may?....If you add their wonderful suggestions to an already built-up base (this means elevations and topo), the process goes much more smoothly. The 'sand' you speak of should simply be the adornment, and not the base material.
hth.
