For years I waited for the 1:35 scale DUKW kit to come out. Picked one up the day they were released. Looked at it, and felt something was missing, so I set it aside for a future build. Bought the Verlinden kit for it and that made it look better. Anyway, just started it last week when KABOOM!!!!!!! Fine scale modler comes out with an article on a slight conversion project for it. Figured out what I felt was missing....the fender skirts! So just scratched those out and as I hadn't really gone far in the build as I am assembling it with the Verlinden parts, for once perfect timing from fine scale modeler.

Hi blaster76
Did you know that Italeri released a second version of the DUKW with the 105 howitzer and side skirts. I belive there is a review on the PMMS site.
Cheers

Blaster, Jim Lewis, aka Gunnie, has a work in progress of the original DUKW kit. He's added the skirts too.. Check out his gallery...and keep some pics comming...if it comes out anywhere close to yer Hellcat, i'm sure it'll be a fine job...

That's a fine article, with some excellent photos (including one great underside shot, of a DUKW being hoisted onto a cargo ship). Even if you aren't a regular FSM reader, it's worth getting this issue for the DUKW article.

Thanks guys. I'm already rockin' and rollin' on this project. The fender skirts were easy to scatch so I have no desire to go out and buy the other kit. Nice to know about the skirts though in case I feel like doing a large scale diorama.

hello blaster
im doing the italeri 1/35 DUKW with 105 howitzer atm its a nice kit so far, i've found the most complex part of the kit has been the howitzer lol. Im still not sure if ill place the howitzer on the duck yet but i must say that ive enjoyed doing this model so far as its a nice change to the usual armor kits. hope yours goes well.
