Terry Ashley published his review of Trumpeter's new 1/35 scale WWII US Navy LCM (3) Landing Craft today on Perth Military Modelling Site. Judging from Terry's photos, the quality seems to get better and better with each Trumpeter release!

Very Nice. This does look like a great kit. I don't know when I'll be getting one but hopefully plenty of people with more money than I will snap it up. Then Trumpeter will be prompted to make even more Allied equipment. Trumpeter certainly seems to be the most interesting model company going right now.

I just don't get it.
why does everyone make an lcm?
why not an lct or some other landing craft for just soldiers. or something, then you could have 3 or 4 diffrent crafts in yr dio wich would be way more cool then all the same, but thats just my toughts

Wow -- that's really a tough act for Italeri to beat. From the looks of those .50 cals and mounts, Trumpeter has already won -- Italeri .50s are usually pretty sorry.
The British or U.S. option is also a nce touch.
I wonder how long it will be before some aftermarket company comes out with an LCM(6) conversion?
I also wonder what the price on this kit will be -- anyone heard?

It's listed at Rainbow Ten for 5800 Yen. Which is about $53.

That sounds pretty fair for what comes in this kit.
I've had a set of 1/35th scale plans for an LCM(3) sttting around for years and was planning to scratch-build one someday. The big hold-up was fiding details of the .50 cal. mounts and the boat pilot's controls. Looks like Trumpeter covered this pretty well.

There are a couple LCVP kits on the market. Lindberg made one that can still be found, plus there is a kit by Fonderie -- it's a little pricey for the quality.
The nice thing about the LCM is its versatality. You can load it with troops or vehicles up to and including a Sherman. It was also used in all theaters.
LCVPs can carry a jeep and maybe a Dodge 3/4-ton.
LCTs are pretty cool, but in 1/35th they are huge -- more than 5 feet long. Then comes building enough vehicles and figures to fill the deck. A daunting project. If you are so inclined, Accurate Armour does an LCT(4) in 1/35th and it only costs $899.00 -- see product AA-D-12: http://www.missionmodels.com/pages/accurate_armour.htm

A curious image of Trumpeter's LcM. Now, I imagine this was one of the images they used while designing the kit. Alternatively it is some real hi-tech version of lego ...Jim
