How many coats of acrylic gloss do you guys recommend to prevent decals from silvering?
Thanks

I am a firm believer in the two-step (much to my wife's disbelief.). One good coat before decaling - and let at least 24 hrs. go by before you start. Decal, and let the decals set (again, I let 24hrs. go by). Then, seal with another coat of gloss. After another day or two, I would hit it with a coat of dull coat. It works for me.
Cheers,
Mike

I use a slightly different approach. If possible, shoot the base coat in gloss, I lightly polish or buff the area to create a smoother surface for the decal to sit on and then I spray some gloss if the base coat is flat and after a day, I buff that too. I cut the border of the decal film as close as possible to the colored part, even with letters, I cut in between them with an exacto before they are dipped in water. After the decals are on, I brush on Micro Sol which just about melts the film on every nook and crease, making it look painted on. After a day or so, I shoot another light coat of gloss and a few hours later the final flat coat. This has worked for me for the past 25 years, you can't go wrong with this method.

I always apply two thin coats of gloss for decaling. I find it is all that is needed. Havent had a silvered decal yet . HTH
