Hi,
I'am building the M35 legend Guntruck kit. They put a radio post that is a RT-524 (the same as the Verlinden Nato radio set ref 198)
Was this radio used during the Nam war ?
TIA

This is the most common radio used on the Gun Trucks along with the PRC 25/77 along with a couple of the FAC radios to communicate with the Air crews.

I also forgot that we used the R-442 Receiver on the trucks

A little off topic but I was looking at the photos in you Web shots page and I noticed that you have changed the exhaust of the Nancy. The exhaust run under the chassis and came out between the right rear duals. You can see this in the photo of the actual truck

Dave,

I wanted to ask you one question some time ago, but forgot - luckily photos of Pascal's Nancy reminded me of it. I noticed that some M35A2 based guntrucks, like The Mafia and King of the Roads had two exhaust pipes -one was typical for A2 trucks vertical one although significantly longer than usual, and the other was like the one Pascal added to his model - under the front fender. What was the reason for that? Was the upper exhaust pipe connected to anything at all or was just the lower one used?

Rgds,

When we were receiving the A2 models with the upright exhaust stacks we found that the multi fuels and diesels put out too much smoke and the gun crews couldn't see through it. So some of the crews disconnected the upright and had a modified exhaust exit under the front right fender. Because the upright stacks made the little deuce look like it's big brother the M-54 five tons some of the crews left the stack on their trucks. Just for show.

Looking good Pascal. Did you put an intercom in the cab for the driver. Most of our trucks had one mounted besides or behind the drivers head so that he could hear what was going on. It kind of gave them a head start on the info to respond to the issue at hand. This is looking very nice so far. Is this going to be the Sopwith Camel when finished ? Can't wait to see it painted up. If it is the Camel you can paint it either the standard OD Green or you can paint it Black. This is the truck after they painted her black.

Thanks Dave.

I dont know what do you mean as "intercom", is it headphone with micro, or a auxilliary HP ?

Today I don' tknow wich truck I make. I thing to Mafia. The Camel is intersting, but the black colour is perharps hard to make good for the first time !

Wait and see.

The driver had a set of headphones or a speaker behind his head so that he could listen for orders from the gun truck NCOIC. Some of our drivers wore the tankers helmet or a helicopters helmets. The driver is the most important job on the Truck. It was very hard to keep a good driver. In the early days most of the cabs were unarmored and the poor driver was a sitting duck. The only way you could get to be a gunner was to start as a driver. Here is a photo of the Mafia This truck had the XM134 on the back along with the 50'
s. This truck was also a M-35 A2 with two exhaust pipes. The original tall stack was left on for looks and a short pipe under the right front fender was used for the exhaust.

pascalbausset - no big deal but the radio you have installed looks to be a GRC-106, not a PRC-25/77. Just as a point of reference. Looks good !

Your on your way with this one. Check out the photos in my gallery of the Mafia model to get ideas where to place equipment in the gun box. Looking good so far.
