Hello Everbody:

First send congratulations for the web it's cool!

Second. Somebody knows what types of hummer was in Somalia in the Mogadiscio battle, yo know blackhawk down.

Because i have the m-1036 hummer of italeri with tow missile and i have the aef designs resin kit for transform in the patrol version, you know, with the tube structure.

Or if you know if this version was there:

- hummer m-1036 with tow missile and without doors
- hummer m-1036 with tow missile and doors of course
- hummer patrol with tube structure only, as the idf version

for afganistan the same

Well thanks for all and i hope that this question isn't very extensive

Sincerely your spanish modeller colleague

Most HMMWV kits omit what is called the "B" pillar. (Note: in automotive talk, the "A" pillar is the front windshield frame, "B" pillar is the frame directly behind the front seats, and the "C" pillar is behind the rear passengers). The exception being the kits that are marketed in the 2-door version.

This is a problem when modeling a HMMWV with the doors off. Verlinden makes this part in their Command Hummer Conversion. I've seen folks model the HMMWV with no doors and the "B" pillar is not present. Makes the kit look unrealistic.

Miguel,
Basically all versions of HMMWVs were/are being used in Somalia and Afghanistan. The US Army does not use the patraol HMMWV depicted in the conversion like the IDF and ROK (S Korean) armies do. The most common type used in combat zones is the M-1025 weapons carrier with the hard, "turtle shell", back. The weapons mounted on them can vary widely from the M-60 or M240B .30 cal MGs, MK19 40mm grenade launcher, or M2 .50 cal MG.

Here is a site with general info on HMMWV and its varients and many referance photos.

HMMWV

There is also a great diorama by Pete Bacerra in the gallery here about Rangers in Somalia that features a HMMWV.

Thanks for the help to everybody and for to reply fast. The reason that i wanted to know if the m-1025 without doors or the patrol version was in Somalia was because this way i can put some militar material in the back (amunition boxes por example) and to see all :-)

The tow missile version because this kit don't bring tow amunition boxes and this way i haven't to do the tubes in scratch :-)

Sincerely thank you for all

Miguel, have you checked out my motor pool album? It is soon to be a definitive US equipment reference site. Here is a link to the HMMWV album: Major Rob's Motor Pool

Steve,
The Tamiya kit is pretty good. It builds up nice, no "B" pillar as Rob noted above. As for the 25mm Bushmaster, this was a prototype vehicle only and was not adopted by the US Military or any other for that matter that I know of. It does look pretty menacing though.

Gino aswered question B, as for question A, the Tamiya HMMWV kit is actually the exact same chassis as the Italeri kit. There is an additional sprue that adds the Bushmaster and a new hard top, but it is still the original Italeri HMMWV.

So I can build the Tamiya version with the Bushmaster as an option? Because I really don't want to build a prototype vehicle that wasn't in active service.

No, unfortunately, it does not include the proper "turtleback" type of hardtop found on the M1025/1026 or M966/1036. It only has the "station wagon" looking hardtop shown on the box top. The doors are the same. The Tamiya Bushmaster Hummer is much like the Italeri "Desert Patrol" Hummer. Just a one-of prototype that wasn't put into production.

It is a neat looking vehicle though.

Go to the "Gallery" and look for the Major Rob's Motor Pool link. Plenty of photos of the back of an armored HMMWV there. I do not know what PE is or isn't used with the kit since I do not have that PE set.

In the BHD book, the say that the TOW was used to knock out several buildings. But there was no mention of it being used in "Gothic Serpent",Oct. 3-4. They did use M2's,60's,and Mark-19's. Hope it helps!.....

Dear Mr(s):

I follow with the m-1036 hummer and i have a doubt. Someone knows how is the support
that some units have in the outside rear part that its used for to transport jerrycans?. Its a tube steel structure but i don't know the exact form. I watch in TV in a fast image and i didn't see perfectly.

Thanks for all

Miguel Angel
