I mean besides the Trumpeter Finnish T-55 it comes with.
Now I have the BTU-55 dozer blade and I'd like to affix it to a kit. Anyone know what other tanks these blades were also used on? Some of the types of former Soviet tanks I have are T-62A, Type 59-B, T-55A, T-64B, T-72 and T-80. I know the T-55A is OK, how about the others?
Thanks,
Armor/AFV

Idon't know if this will help you the blade from the BTU-55 was mounted on a T-55 in Israel. Although the mounting was a bit different. You can see some good pics in Verlinden's Book on Israeli Tirans. If you don't have it I'll scan the pages for you.

Hi,
In Polish Army- for sure we used them with T-54(55). We "did" because all these type tanks were retired from our use. I saw somewhere photos of BTU-55 attached to Soviet T-62, too.
As far as I know Polish T-72 and PT-91 can use another type of dozer blade. But I will mail a guy from Bumar-Labedy tank factory to confirm it.

There are several on the market:
1. Trumpeter makes several variants are are basically decent kits
2. Esci made one that is still out there if you look
3. Lindberg made one that was poor and OOP
4. Lee makes one that is a copy of a conglomeration of other makers' kits
5. Skif makes one that is decent, but is dogged by all T-55 experts in the know, I like it though. These same experts are still waiting for someone to make the definitive T-55 kit.

Jeff,
Lol...no I don't "post" there. But I do cruise through occasionally to see if there are any major topics of interest.

Hi,
I'm still looking for this photo- but meanwhile I found information on my resin set of BTU-55 that it was sesigned for T-54 and T-62. But if I find this photo- for sure I will let you know.
I decided to use Lee kit as a base for my T-55AM2 Merida conversion for several reasons: opinions of another modellers, outstanding Bruce Crosby's article about updating ESCI's kit and avaiability (Italian kit is not avaiable in Poland- but Lee's product is close copy of it). But for sure to buy a decent copy of this beast you will need several aftermarket sets.
As far as I know Tamiya's kit is OOP. Now you can buy it only as collector's product. Few years ago Dragon announced T-55. But they didn't decided to release it.
I can't understand why Mr. Tamiya doesn't want to release this item. IMHO it would be the most wanted model not only for modern armour fans.

Yes, a very long time ago. I didn't mention it because even if you found one, most wouldn't want to build it (collectable) and the quality doesn't even come close to the worst of the five sources I listed. It has rubber band tracks (big black rubber band with some "track-looking" detail). Plus for the price of this collectable, you could probably buy each of the five I listed, an aluminum barrel and the Eduard PE that is made for the Esci kit. Thanks Rob but did not Tamiya make one way back?

Let me know when you find a good detail shot of the BTU-55 on the T-62. I want to mount this thing to an old Tamiya T-62A I have incoming.I'm still looking for this photo- but meanwhile I found information on my resin set of BTU-55 that it was sesigned for T-54 and T-62. But if I find this photo- for sure I will let you know...

As far as the making of a T-55 by Tamiya, give them time. It seems that every so often someone announces that they are releasing one and then the critics tear it apart. I bet when they do get around to making one, it will be on par with the Pershing and most likely will be available with optional parts for an Israel Ti-67. We can only hope.

Jim keeps track of all the links to the Armorama site I "hide" in my posts at M-L. I'm probably one of the few who can post a link to another site there and not have it removed in a couple of days. I just posted a link in the M578 thread for someone looking for detail shots. Then told him to check back often and I'd up load some for him.And how did you know? were you posting something yourself?
