Hi All,
I am currently building a Panzer IV - H/J (Academy) in 1/35. I noticed that there were no painting schemes or instructions for this model.
My question is:
What colours did they use during their production? What paint numbers eg. Tamiya do you recommend?
Maybe something in the way of a Tamiya equivalent model, a copy of the painting instructions would be a big help to use as a reference.
I am happy with the Academy model with the way it is coming together. The detail is also great. I'm a little bit lost in the way that there is no painting scheme.
Please help!!
Thanks in advance,
Gabe

I am bulding the same thing too! the color scheme as it is in the top of the box is dark yellow base coat with red brown and olive green sprayed all over.
here is an in progress pic, it's got a filter so you can't quite see the camo scheme but this is the only pic I have. I didn't like the armor, it's fit is not the best

I used the following Tamiya paints on my Tamiya Mk IV H
XF-60 Dark Yellow
XF-64 Red Brown
XF-61 Dark Green
I hope this helps you out.

The later MK 4's had their base coats in german yellow, over sprayed in olive, or drk. green, some had german brown thrown in. The interiors were not painted white, rather a buff or very light tanish color. Often, the inside of the hatches were painted the exterior color to match it when left open. If you have a chance, pick up Panzer Colors, vols. 1 & 2. These books are put out by Squadron and are a must when dealing with German cammo colors.

Basically if you use the Dark yellow base paint and the dark green and red brown for the camo colors you will be good. The Great thing about German armor and camo patterns is that there is so much freedom in the patterns you can paint. The vehicles came from the factory painted in the base color of dark yellow (dunkelgelb) and the crews would then paint the camo pattern with green (olivegrun) and red brown (rotbraun) according to the directives of the platoon leader who would dictate what to paint due to the time of year and the terrain.
