I have only one question in my mind,
in my reference books i am seeing a m18 hellcat with a muzzlebrake very rarely -1 out of 50 pictures-
My question is, Afv club is including a muzzlebrake to its barrel. Should i include it or not what is the time perios?
my books are at home,so i am hoping somebody can answer it offhand.
Thanks,

It looks like ones after 1945 march has the muzzle brake(after a very brief search)
i believe it is not dependent on the turrets (76 mm M1A1, M1A1C or M1A2L/55 versions-from profile #26 page 118)
is muzzle brake nonexistent on some battalions all together?
I don't believe it is a field mod.
reasons?

Adoption of the muzzle brake was approved in Febuary of '44 and the muzzle brake entered production in June of '44.
In the interim the M1A1C 76mm entered production which was threaded at the end to accept the muzzle. These guns carried a 'thread-protector' on their gun ends. When the muzzle brake was available from production runs it could be retrofitted in the field. Not many were.
So, the muzzle brake was a late-war feature. Also of note, only about 700 of the final production M18 had the new muzzle brakes.
As far as which battalions had or used them... what ever is available in pics.
