I am considering switching the forum page back to a more similar version to what we had. I just don't think the highlighted groups are worth the additional database load (it's a complex set of queries) and I don't like that the topic and post counts are gone.
Here is the replacement page
Thoughts?

Jim:
I'd be happy to see the old page back. I've found I'm not looking at some of the areas that often and it can be hard to tell what sections have new posts.

I have never been that happy about the current look, so the "replacement" look seams better in my eyes.

I agree with the guys, with the old page you can clearly see all the forum groups and wether a new post has been added. I also foud myself skipping some of the posts I used to look at.

I must admit that I find the old forum page easier to use.

I always use the 'latest post' facility to get all the new stuff, so the graphics on the forum page don't worry me! change it back if it saves space etc.

It seems to be the more popular format.

I liked the older one better myself. Loved the checkmark telling me about new posts.

Either way you do a hell of a job on this site!

Old one please. I never use the forum home page now, I go directly to the latest posts page. But I think I miss seeing some posts that way and using the old page I never had that feeling.
Thanks as alway for all the work you do being the scenes here and for taking user feedback like this.

I prefer the older style of forum page with the new posts icons. Mind you I had the forums page in my favourites list. Even though the site switched to a new look page I still get the older one with icons showing new posts since my last visit. :-)
Here's the old forum page link, it still works.

Howdy Jim,
I must agree with the (obviously) overwhelming consensus...........switch back.
Tread.
I'm also with you 'Roo, I am quite relieved to have Kenc' s 'O.K.' on the subject. :-)

The old format was easier to navigate. But we did have to have a trial of this one to be able to compare.
Ok,you have my permission to change.
