"Cobra King" was the name of the Sherman from the 4th Armored that is credited with being the first into Bastogne during the relief of the city in the "Battle of the Bulge."
I believe it was an M4A3E2 "Jumbo" -- this may be the type of tank the author is referring to.

Thanks for that Bob, I am really interested because I have never seen The Jumbo reffered to in this way. Do you have or know of any Pics of the Sherman "cobra king" from the 4th AD?

I have some in books, but my scanner is toasted.
I know there is something on the web, but my Googles have come up with no pics. If you type in "Cobra King" you get pics of snakes and cars. Add "Bastogne" and things get better. Might want to check on ML. I think Steve Zaloga built Cobra King at some point.
I remember the pic -- Cobra King had chalk writing on it "First in Bastogne!" and such ... wish I could find it online.

Here you go. Look closely under the word Bastogne.

Thanks, Ken!
I knew someone had it ... should have thought of you first.
BTW, look at the shiny bare metal on the idler wheel -- lots of folks miss that when modeling a Sherman or any other tank with metal idler or road wheels.

I swear by all that is holy that I was going to mention that to all those unfortunate enough to paint it black like the road wheels!
Also what is noticeable is the engine access door stop on the real upper hull. It's not often seen in many photos.

Just build another one using the experience gained from the one you built a couple of weeks ago. Can never have too many Sherms!

I was looking at the chalked words on this tank when I noticed that the writer nearly forgot to spell "Bastogne" without the 'G'. You can make out where he started to write 'N' under the 'G'.
I can see one of the crew yelling out to correct him.

Did anyone else notice why we should never use drawing as a reference?? They didn't draw the right kind of wheels ..You'd think it was quite obvious but....

S Zaloga says that the M4A3E2 was rarely called the "Jumbo".
Have a read here:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=47208&messageid=1088458318Just to be succinct, "Cobra King" was the nickname of ONE vehicle and not a type of Sherman. It seems from some of the posts that this isn't clear.

Andy I don't think you can build that M4A2 as a NZ tank as it is a late with a 76mm gun and from what I read so far ..only the Russians used them during the war.
