I have just bought a can of primer gray to help smoothen out the surface. This is my 1st time. Please help me out & tell me the steps involved in primer application.

This is the color scheme of one of my Flankers. -

Spray on primer as you would any paint. Light coats only. Do not try to cover everything the first time.

Multiple thin coats is the best bet......

Also make sure to wash the model before you prime.
