Just a small update on my progress on my Kelly's Heroes diorama. I have just over a month before the local club's group build comes to an end. I have completed the drybrushing on both the Tiger and Oddball's Sherman. I still have a long way to go on both the base/buildings as well as the tanks and figures. As always, any comments are welcome.

That big honking loudspeaker is just hilarious. Perfect look for a classic Sherman. I feel like watching Kelly's Heroes again!!

Thanks for the postive "waves" everyone, glad there are no Moriarity's in the bunch!
Erik: Oddball is currently embedded on a toothpick covered in gray primer. The figures are next on my list as last night I drybrushed the tracks with some steel acrylic paint and added them to the tanks. I am planning to wait on doing the detail painting on the tanks until after the figures are done.
Paulo: A close examination of the the Tigers (I found a website devoted to the tanks of Kelly's Heroes, which unfortunately the last time I went for a visit was no longer there, which had some close up pictures of the Tigers) revealed (to my eye) an attempt to imitate zimmerit.

Hello Joe:
Oddball's Sherman was, in Oddball's words, a standard 76mm Sherman. From what I have gathered in my diorama research, (and I am no Sherman expert) the movie was filmed in Yugoslavia and in the post-WWII period, the US had sent Yugoslavia some re-armed M4A3 Shermans. It was these Shermans that were used in the movie. The 76mm gun had apparently been added to the standard 75mm turret. There was a website (don't recall the name or address) devoted to Shermans, including those sent to Yugoslavia, where I found this info. That was my reasoning for using the older Tamiya M4A3 kit in this build.

I would have liked to see in the movie that tube that Oddball says they mount over the 76mm barrel "so the krauts think it's like a 90mm or something!" Although he said they liked to do it I don't think they did in the railroad scene, nor did I see any of his tanks carry them as stowage.
BTW KBM what barrel did you use on your Oddball tank?

Hello Alan:
The barrel I used was the Jordi Rubio barrel. It was a very nice barrel where you had the option of using either a muzzle brake or the end that I used as that matched Oddball's. I have cut a piece of aluminum tubing for the barrel extension but I have not decided if I will use it as the only time I saw it during the movie was at the very beginning.

Is it the 76mm JR barrel? If it is, does it fit right into the 75mm mantlet or did you have to trim the barret/manlet??
