I am wondering which color would be the proper color to use as a filter over dark sand color? can any of you paint gurus out there steer me in the right direction? Thanks Kevin

Filters work like the ones used in photography so there is an immense variety of possible choices. If you can tell what effect you want to achieve it would be much easier to try to answer your question...

You can easily go with green, brown or different shades of sand yellow. As long as you keep paint ration around 5% or less you can't end with bad results.
