Model # 3.....I may be about to open a huge can of worms here, but I am about to tackle a P-51D with a bare metal finish. I would like to stick to using acrylics if possible. I build my planes really used and battle ridden. The key is I dont want some finish that looks like its chrome and shiny. Should I use my acrylic MM aluminum with a semi-gloss coat? flat coat, gloss, or what? Im wanting to maintain some accuracy, but at the same time have it appear somewhat dull, as old photos seem to show....any tips would help.

Thanks!

Here's a tip for painted BMF. After your plane has been painted silver, add a small drop of Tamiya clear yellow or orange to some paint in the paintcup of your airbrush. Mask off a few pannels and paint them with the tinted paint. You can also try adding some clear smoke for a slightly different effect. You may want to test this out on a scrap of plastic first. BMF finished aircraft usually had some diversity in the colours of their pannels.
