Does anyone know where to pick up an M24 that's not in 1/72 scale?

Italeri made one that was also boxed by Testors in 1/35. It was first issued around 1985 and is a very good kit. The Italeri boxed version is kit #244 and the Testors yellow boxed version is #810. Identical kits, Airwaves makes a PE set for it.

Bryan - I went searching my favorite vendors on the internet, but no luck on the Chaffee. There are two of them being offered up for auction at eBay.com right now, however...

Tin Can--I just tried Hobbyland, APC Hobbies, and Squadron. They have the 1/35 M-24 Chaffee
Italeria kit. A joy to build. Very nice detail. I built one and have another one ready to start.
Look great in a diorama with the M-5 Stuart. I am stuck trying to get the Sherman sand bag set from
Custom Diorama (CD 2005). It is the one that has the sand bags within a metal brace that goes around the chassis. My dealer tells me it is no longer produced. Two questions...is he
right? And, has anyone used it on the Sherman?
thanks

No...I am just a dolt who didn't remember to reset the view permissions to EVERYBODY.

I should know not to try to do stuff when I am half asleep.

They should be working now.

Gunnie--"Target on the Mover." VLS lists CD 2005 for $19.95. Have you every gotten one of
these items? I recall that Mongram once put out a Sherman with sand bag protection.
I trust that the CD will be more realistic. FSM carried an article by a fellow who placed
tissue sand bags with real sand ballast on his Sherman. My first reaction was
"how much weight does that add to the model." If anyone has experience with CD product 2005, I'd appreciate some feedback.
thanks

DJ - no, personally I haven't cracked open CD 2005 - but everything I've had of theirs is pretty darn good. I don't anticipate you'd be disappointed.

Bob Collingnon (the builder of the sandbagged M4 in the current FSM issue) wrote me and sent me pictures of the buildup and info on the sandbags before the magazine hit the newsstands. He didn't mention any appreciable weight added to the miniature to be overly-concerned about. Have at it!

I'm glad I don't have that problem (very BIG lie). I'll never tell HOW I managed to smuggle TWO Mace with Teracruzer model kits into the house...

When you do get going on it - how's about sharing some pics and thoughts on it. I don't think I'm the only one interested in it...

Humble thanks for the compliment Sir! :-) Seriously Bryan - if you look and aren't able to find a Chaffee (as these kits are near-legal tender in some parts) let me know. I'll venture down into the dark recesses of my model vault and get my spare kit off to you.

Yes, and I have this one too. Monogram produced two versions of the M4 Sherman in 1/32 scale, an M4 with sandbag armor called the "Hedge Hog" and the M4 Calliope called the "Screamin Mimi". The Hedge Hog was a welded hull M4 and the Calliope was a cast hull M4. The Calliope was reissued several years ago, I got mine through SMO for $9.99. I'll dig out the kits and have their boxtops placed in the boxtop folder. The Hedge Hog still has the Shep Paine diorama insert included.

Rob - never seen one of the Shep Paine dio inserts - is it really all the "rage" that some collectors make it out to be?

I had a few and they were really neat. The ones I remember were the Enola Gay dio one that came with the B-29 and one that showed a war weary B-24 being painted white with red and blue polka-dots as a formation aircraft. Also some of the armor ones I recall was the one that came with the deuce and a half, that one had a real neat "mail call" dio where soldiers are getting mail from the back of the deuce. I'll get the Hedge Hog one posted so you can take a gander.

Gunnie--Paine collectables from the Shermans and 1/48 bombers are classics. I have both
the B-17 and B-29. Love them. The B-17 is just a beautiful kit to build. Back to tanks. I did
see your M-24 on your website. Beautiful job and one which brings tears to a grown man's eyes. The tears are largely due to my inability to come even close. Wow! Well done (again)Have these eyes grown too old to see?

Rob - thanks! I'll be looking forward to seeing a sample of the Shep Paine dio material. When those kits came out, I was too young, and we really couldn't afford it anyway. I was building spaceships - and I'm talking the good 'ol styrofoam-model-of-the-day variety, not anything to buy. That came after many a lawnmower sessions every summer.

DJ - Yep, I've got a Chaffee on my site. I uploaded some pics here too in the Guntruck Gallery. This was before I caught on to how to make individual folders - Duh! I absolutely enjoyed building the M24 Chaffee...
