hey all
lately all my modelling thoughts have been directed to under ground bunkers; viet cong tunnels; trenches;
and flak emplacement bases. i have found various styrofoam packaging products that have helped with flak emplacments and some above ground bunkers though inf. on the topic is very hard to find. so if you could give me all subjects tips for detailing or scrathcbuilding ideas for the above topics it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
thanyou to all that respond and may your modelling continue in great strengths

I may be of some help with German WWII bunkers if you're looking for some information.
I'm in the middle of constructing the German Pointe du Hoc observation bunker at the moment. In Progress pics are up in my gallery. All scratchbuilt, so if you want info on that, let me know.
Also, from my research on the project I picked up a few books on Nazi bunkers and have a bunch of websites that have the schematics/plans for them as well. Just let me know the model number or type and I can put it together and send it to you on email.
Also, if you look up a post that FAUST just started on his German bunker, you get a feel of the whole process. Really nicely done.

Osprey’s book "Tet Offensive 1968" has a really good diagram in it of a VC tunnel system. I would have taken a picture of it, but I'm not sure about copyright infringements of that, so I drew my own for you based on that.
B,G,H,I,J, and K would all be camouflaged since they lead to the surface, but I think you get the idea. From the pictures and stories I've seen and heard, they would have been very small for even the smallest person, and the walls would be very slimy. I've seen a few dioramas made of VC tunnels. Probably the best thing to do would be to make a cube base, and then cut out the tunnels in the side. You could also add a flat back to it and then attach Styrofoam to the back of that to get an “ant farm” look. I thought about making a VC tunnel diorama and put tunnels going all the way around and through it and mount the diorama on a lazy Susan type thing where it would turn around 360º so you could see the entire outlaying of the tunnels. You could even make it motorized so you could turn it on and it would automatically turn to let you see all sides.

The movie 'Platoon' has an interesting scene involving a VC tunnel including entrance, entry shaft, underground HQ, "barracks', and 'hospital'. Most larger tunnel systems were lighted, probably by battery power as a generator would fill the tunnels with toxic fumes. (Batteries and other goods were routinly stolen by the truckload from Viet. gov't. supply dumps).
