This is the old Tamya kit, it has 1974 marked on the sprue. And it was a bugger of a build! Plenty of bad fitting parts, and poor instructions. But the end results when the smoke cleared was , I thing a good model. This being the only game in town for an M3 lee kit in injected plastic. I built it OOB, and just borrowed a few extra parts out of my spare parts box. I still have the M3 Grant in my stash, and they will look good together on my shelf along with my Shermans.
Hope you enjoy! And any input is welcome!
Cheers,
Garry

Nice job on an old kit -still the only 1/35 Lee/Grant around and so long as you don't look too closely it looks like it should............

Ciao garrybeebe,
My favorite tank and you did a great job with it. I do wish that someone would make a new one in plastic. Actually, the Tamiya one is correctable, if you change the six-spoke wheels, correct the turret to size, place a muzzle balance, change.....oh, never mind. We just need a new kit (instead of another version of the panther)!!
Ciao for now
Rob

No, they both used those stars in the prewar and very very very early war, The Navy and Army Air Corps got rid of the red dot after mistakes, confusing it with the japanese "meatball".
Great looking Lee, I wish I had one of these, I did however just finish a 72nd scale one which I will show sometime soon.

I like this model a lot. I love the shape of it. Nice one Gary. You made some job of this! Nice clean build and paintwork. The exact same model, OOB with same markings is showing on trank link at the moment. [click here to see] . Funny... this model is so rarely seen and now theres two almost the same!

Great effort Gary. I really like it. The older Tamiya Kits are a bear to build but your won that battle hands down. If I had one bit of advice that would be to try and streak the dirt a bit. Other than that, great job.

Great work on your M3 Lee. With all the shorcomings of the Tamiya kit, you have done a very good job !
Hopefully the new Academy M3 Lee/Grants will be out someday soon

The US 2nd Armor Division used an even different one. It had a red surround with a white star and blue dot. The US Air Force never technically used this insignia since they were formed in 1957 and the Army Air Corps had stopped using this insignia by 1943 or so.Iv never seen them decals used on a u.s tank before,i thought that type were used by the u.s airforce.great job by the way

I wood like to thank you all for your kind words and encouragment. Out of all the shortcomings of this kit,I realy enjoyed building it! This is the first I have heard about Academy bringing out an M3, knowing Academy kits, it should be a good one!
Thanks again,
Garry

Great looking tank! I'm building the Tamiya M3 Lee as we speak. With the 37mm gun, did yours come hollowed out, or did you do it? If so, how do you bore that small thing out, or is that an aftermarket barrel? Thanks and again, it looks great!

Hello AG, thanks for your complements!
I drilled the barrel out with a pin vice and a small bit.
I dont know the size of the bit, but it was smaller then the bore I wanted. I enlarged the edge of the hole by useing a #11 knife blade and turning it, very carefuly The pin vice drill is a tool that should be in every modelers tool box, its handy!
HTH,
Garry
