I just noticed interesting modification on some Challenger 2 tanks. Someone must have decided that old style Chally 2 road wheels were too heavy and added lightening holes to them. Or maybe too much mud got stuck in wheels and those are supposed to be mud relief holes?... Check photos below (from http://plain-military.tripod.com).
Last photo is interesting, because the tank has a mixture of new and old wheels on it.

interesting photos pawel,
to me they look far too small to be lightening holes, or to allow mud to escape, so i would say (as i usual for the MOD) it is most likeliy a cost cutting measure,
maybe the new style is cheaper to produce?
cheers

The roadwheels with the holes in were trail roadwheels what were trailed at the demo sqn at Warminster and they last longer than the old type.
