Heya, Folks,
I was curious about a couple of Merkava things...
First, does anyone know if the steel roadwheels used on the Merkava IID are the same as the roadwheels used on the Merkvava IIID...?
Second, does anyone know if there are any good photos of the hull of the Merkava IIID...? I'm looking to see how different the hull is between the IIID and the hull supplied in the Academy Merk III kit... Wondering if I should try and tweak it myself or just buy the AEF IIID conversion hull...
Thanks!
Aloha

Hiya, Levran!!
Thanks for the reply!!! That is good to know --- great website and good info!
I have saved up for the AEF Designs Merkava IID conversion --- from all that I have seen of it, it looks pretty good and will make a very different looking Merkava!!
I asked about if those IID steel wheels might work for the Merk III because I might want to use them on a future Merk III (block III upgrade)... But I have to finish one project at a time!!
There is a great new Osprey book "Israeli Tank-based infantry carriers" out --- many good color shots! Still, I think that somebody needs to write an updated book on the latest models of the Merkava --- this is long overdue!
And as far as that respect goes, it is sure mutual, Levran!! Keep up the good work, buddy!!! At some point I would love to take a trip over!!!
Be sure to keep us posted on your Merk III upgrade!!!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B

Heya, Levran,
The AEF IID conversion is expensive at $90.00 US AND you still need to buy the Academy Merk II kit of course.
I haven't received it yet, but will report back when I do!
Aloha,
Johnny B

Yep, Levran,
Truly a pricey kit (had to save up for it) --- and given AEF's mixed reputation, something of a gamble. But I have seen pictures of the Merkava IID conversion built up and it looks pretty awesome...
The good news is that I purchased it through Firestorm Hobbies, an Australian internet hobby shop which specialized is Aussie and Israeli stuff (but carry just about everything). I belong to their Buyer's Club, and that entitles me to a 25% discount --- this, coupled with the strength of the US dollar in Australia, brings the price down quite a bit.
I would highly recommend checking the site out --- the guy who runs it, David Hay, provides excellent service and carries a lot of lines of different products (including his own specializing in Australian figures and conversions originating around the Vietnam War --- I have several of these products and they are great!)!

I will report in when I get the AEF IID conversion kit, Levran! Take care!

Hi All
Legend models have just jeleased a full Merkava MK.IIID conversion kit, that includes the following.
New upper hull with side skirts and rear hull baskets, new Turret with etched metal rear basket, all steel road wheels, new gun barrel..
You need to use the lower hull, suspension mountings and tracks from the Academy base kit.
The UK price for this is £49.99, all the sets are available serately for modellers how want to sprread the cost of the kit over a couple of payments.
Next month there will be a new set of workable resin tracks for the Merkava MK IIID.
Legend are planning to release a Merkava MKIID soon.
If you need any more info please feel free to drop me a line.
We are the UK importers for the Legend range and normally have the full range in stock.

hey there Havoc,
do you happen to know if the AEF Mk.II 4th generation armor conversion includes the all steel boogies?
I always wanted to make this upgrade ( I have a Mk.II I did a long time ago that could be donated for the cause) but the 90$ price tag plus is too much for my already empty wallet and it still needs aftermarket Mk.III tracks.
