I attempted to correct the parts that Pascal so kindly pointed out as being incorrect. I replaced the air hoses with a smaller diameter wire and rebuilt the fifth wheel and mount. I hope this will be a better example now. Thanks for all the comments on the last post. You guys are a great help.

YES
It's very better now !!!!!!!

But (excuse me, I' am very difficult) the air hoses can be more better. Here a pic from one of my truck tractor (Scammell Commander)

This made with solder (different diameter) wrap around a round thing. Tomorrow I will post a pic from this item.

Good job one more time.
Cheers

You got that right Cliff. I am glad that we have all this information at our disposal(from the members) here. I have to say that it has helped me improve my building ten fold.

What version are you planning to build? I have a couple more to convert at a later date. They are old models that have been gathering dust and now I have found a new interest in them. I have so many old models laying around that I am looking for different things that I can do with them.

Well Dave it almost looks like you got Holland to overnight you a fifthwheel in 1/35 th scale.

I noticed them saying about the blue on one side and the red on the other, that is true, but when you have all different kinds of machanics doing the work, things get backwards. I don't know if they do it cause they forgot, or just spite, but I have even seen them come from the factory backwards. You just know to hook blue to blue, and red to red.

That is why they marked them red and blue, so you will know the red is the emergency, and the blue is the service line. When the lines are rubber then the glad hands are marked. Some of them might be hard to see, but they are marked.
Now me I had put an extra piece on my emergency glad hand on my tractor so I could tell it from far off, or in the darkest places, if I had to hook up at night with no lights, so I would never get them backwards.

Thanks Ray, but you are a US trucker. Here is a Scammell Commander pic (UK) and the line colors arragement is made with help from AA instructions sheet for the kit. The Scammel have a left hand drive like european truck, the brand new M10710F has a right hand drive.

I verify this question today.
I post this pic only to show how more accurate can be the lines.

Actually I hand carved the fifth wheel from plastic stock. I didn't know you could buy them as after market parts. You have a source for them?

No buddy, I was just joking about that, I figure Holland wouldn't have a model version. Now that new one you built looks a lot more like one, of course I couldn't see whether or not you had the grooves on the face or not like the ones that was on the other trucks fifth wheel.

Boy Howdy Dave!

Sorry sir...I'm a little late to the party here. Just came across your most excellent work! {said in my best Keneau Reeves impression}.

She look's superb. But let me get this straight...you took the standard HEMMT kit and shortened the chassis, added the tractor paraphenalia and Poof! you've got an M-983?? Geeeeez......nice one animal.

I'm really liking this.......don't suppose there's a 'Article' in the works, is there?
Being an old fart, I have no illusions of ego, so I will not hesitate to ask you directly. You, along with a choice few others here at Armorama, would have a 'rapt' audience for any and all of your build-up techniques. I don't think I'm 'going-out-on-a-limb' here by saying, that quite a number of us would be honoured to look over your shoulder AS you build these things! You're probably thinking to yourself..."nobody's really interested in seeing all of these small thing's I'm doing....they just want to see the 'final result'...that's all"........if that's so, please do me a favour, will ya?....................STOP IT!!
Our good 'Roo's another bugger that is probably being shy and waaaaayy too humble about this.

Tell ya what Dave (you too 'Roo)....on your next project. Try this; plan to bore us all to tears....O.K.?......as one of the wiseist old men I've ever known once said to me..."just 'A.B.C.' me lad". Hold our hands while you do what you do. We are all ears.........

your pal,

Tread.

yeah, yeah.....I've already had my glass of 'vino'......

hmmm keep trying Tread one day you may get what you ask for. In fact I am just waiting on a reply from Staff Jim to put up 4 magazine type model articles here on site about 4 of my projects. But alas until I know how to put them up in this form I just have to wait and so do you.

If I spend much more time on the computer I will never get anything built. I can build them but I am lousy at writing about it. Heck you will want me to take measurements and everything. My brain is about to explode On the next one I will try to write something up.

No problem Ray. Its a european point of view, but surely more english point of view. I' am not sure that UK and the rest of Europe have the same rules in this domain (due to right hand drive) !

Animal,
I don't think they make the "version" I am going for. Since I love to do things that have no prototype, I figured a nice HMMT Commo truck. A sort of front line, communications shack on wheels to go with the guntruck I'm scratching. Since I refer to the guntruck as an "Escort Protection Guntruck", it needed something to escort! I figure on building up the truck to look like a sort of RV on a HMMT frame, with antennas and dishes on the roof. I am re-working some line drawings I have on my computer and will start a thread when I've got them finished.
As for the model itself, I have pretty much finished the frame and just need to do some quick painting and detailing and post the pix.
We'll see how this works, I started the same thing with the Tamiya M26, but, that stalled out about two years ago when I was having trouble with the interior wiring for the screens and RADARs. And, it was totally out of date. I think the HMMT will look a little better being a bit more modern.
Keep your head up, look for my post within the next week or so.
Toodles

By the way...
Did you have a problem, when doing the suspention, with one of the shock absorbers being backwards? All of mine fit perfect except one, which was backwards.
How odd

The front driver side shock attaches to the inside of the frame not to the outside. I ran into that with my first kit. Look at the instructions sheet a couple of steps farther and I think you will see the location of that shock.
