heres a few pics of my dio in progress. ill be cruisin once i finish this building. but thats where i need some help. as you can see from the pics, i have made the top windows with smoke damage. (it looks black in real life, not grey) and what i want to know is how much fire damage would have had to have taken place inside. could the windows and outline of them only be damaged? i can only see the entire second floor being charred and the wood floors being destroyed. but i dont know how much damage would have had to take place, and i only want to simulate the minimum. i apologize if this post doesnt make a lot of sense, i can barely understand it myself. but i'd also like to hear any commentary you have on the dio so far too. thanks!

That amount of smoke damage could have been done by a small fire in one room.

This fire is in a vacant building with no fire load. Look at how the flames come out and up the wall. It takes very little fire to stain walls above windows.

I must agree with Patrick, Not only would fire seek the air outlet..but during war how many fires were actually put out before major damage was caused? I would think maximum damage would take place in most cases

If that is a plaster building, try adding the wood details and then torching it. When you get the efect you want, just put out the fire with a spray bottle.

Hi..
not sure it would work...but I seem to remember burning sprue makes a lot of sooty smoke that sticks.

Of course better to do it outside and with something to catch the drips of burning plastic and a pale of water handy...if you feel like giving it a go....on a test piece.

Just a thought...or am I barking mad?

My vote says simulate the minimum like you stated you want to. Fire can be a strange thing. Sometimes it can burn without alot of smoke depending on ventilation. With so many variables its hard to say what kind of damage would have been done by a particular fire.
+ doing the minimum allows you to add to it if its not to your liking. Easier to add stain than repaint.
The building is very cool..is the street made of gravel?

thanks for the replies, i guess ill just play it by ear and do the detailing then stain it. kancali, the street is cobblestone (lentils) and it didnt turn out as well as i wished. most of it will be covered in rubble so it wont be a huge deal. thanks for the feedback.
