Thanks again for the comments guys. Costas, I will try what you suggest and start experimenting with the water. Andy, The twine is really easy once its cut to length. And now there is the problem its all the cutting to get that much twine lol. It left my fingers sore from the scissors. :-) Cheers Kevin

if you want slow running water may I suggest woodland realistic water its very easy you dont have to mix it, and its better for your health then using clear resin to pour the water

Engin, thank you very much for the kind words. Also welcome back I am starting to have as much fun with this as I did when working on the Brave Souls dio. You have missed alot of the brainstorming phase. There are going to be many, many soldiers on this one. Also that verlinden cart that I had ordered for the last one will come to some use. I wont be using the cart itself but all the goodies that came with it will be used. Cheers Kevin

Hello Kevin:

The dio is looking really good. As far as translucent paint, we experimented with Tamiya Clear Blue and Green in various water products (such as the Woodland Scenics Easy water) at the LHS a few months ago and they did work to color the water solutions. Unfortunately, neither color would be appropriate by itself as they are too bright a color in my opinion.

Thanks for the input and support guys .Antonio, as of right now the plan is for approximately 38 figures.I have a feeling I am being overly ambitous, with around 26 walking or relaxing soldiers, 6 more in and on the hanomag, 2 in the tank,1 on the kettenkrad, and 3 civilians. That is the plan anyway, will depend on how it will look. Why so many figures? Its the germany marching for the offensive at Kursk, and they are coming to a bridge crossing where there is a turn in the road. one of the civilians will be vending food to the troops as they come by, some stopping to sit and have a break in the march. the column is all jammed up because of the "Traffic Jam" at the bridge head. Some soldiers will be visiting with the kids that will be fishing. I hope this makes a good scene. Any opinion on it? Keith, thanks for a solution to the water. I have the transparent green paint, I will check on the blue. One question, how did the coloring come out? what kind of water were they trying to make? With the blue and green was it ocean water? Cheers and will keep everyone posted as i progress. Kevin

Kevin:

There was no direct goal of the testing (i.e. ocean, stream, pond, etc.), simply testing to see what happens when the Tamiya clear paint was added. We were checking out numerous water products and ways to use them and color them. I am not a color expert, so not sure the effect of mixing the various clears. Also, I know that the LHS also stcoks Gunze and Humbrol versions of clear paint that might give you more color variety.

Keith thanks for the info. I have a problem here though being stuck in the middle of no where. Closest hobby shop is 45 miles away but they only carry model masters paints and polly scale. I have to drive 90 miles to find tamiya paints lol. I will see what I can come up with. Cheers Kevin

Kevin:

If you need me to pick up some Tamiya/Gunze/Humbrols and mail them to you, just let me know. I'll be at the LHS Thursday for the local armor club meeting and the "unveiling" of my Kelly's Heroes diorama. I can pick it up then and drop it in the mail to you Friday. Just PM me if you are interested.

38 figures is going to be a very ambitious project. One of the first pics I posted here had 44. I suck at figures and mine are just flesh color with basic uniform colors. I really paid little attention to shading and beards and stuff.

Alan, I also am not the best figure painter in the world And I have a feeling if I can get it all to fit and look the way I want it too, I will be painting till after christmas. :-)Cheers Kevin

Kevin:

i doubt there will be any sneak peeks this time around. I still have several "small" details to finish up tonight, like attaching the figures to the tanks and then the tanks to the base, so I am not sure how much time I will have to take pictures this evening. Rest assured I will post pictures of this build, which has consumed my attention for 3 plus months, soon.

Hi Kevin. Looking like the start of a another stunner. Looking forward to more installments and watching the progress. Not much to offer at this stage.
On the topic of the bridge and supports, I think I would go for some supports ... even a stone column. If you look at the distance from the timber embankments, and its only the middle of the river, that looks like a very long span for a timber bridge. Even if the bridge is well embedded, there is always the risk of some damage here at a later stage. A support would also help against this. Stone columns under the bridge would look nice weathered suitably and the current flowing around them! Just my €0.02. Good luck whateveryou decide!

Thank you for the kind words guys I really appreciate them. Bus- no field kitchen for this one. I will have an older gentleman selling foods and stuff along the side of the road and some soldiers stopping to eat and buy some things. but no room on it for a feild kitchen. Frank-I was going to have the timber support as it shows in the reference photo.I had Slodder help blow it up and figured out the scale from the man in white that was standing on the bridge. I then constructed a bridge section that would go past the first support piling, but the bridge was to long. so I cut the bridge down to just before it got to the supports. I would have had to have a huge base to get the whole section of bridge on there to go out past the first support. I do however like your suggestion of a stone support. I will keep that in mind for a future project. Ian- First I would like to welcome you to "Armorama" I am sure you will enjoy all this site has to offer. Secondly I have posted on your dio I really like it keep up the wonderful work. Cheers Kevin
