Here's the question, Why 1:72, 1:76, 1:87, 1:160, 1:144, and any other? For me, I like the small work area, and my project being more mobile. (Helps keep the peace since I'm a kitchen table renter). Now, I just like my 1:72 anyways! I hope there's more chatter to explain the small scale passion. Just for fun and camaraderie, how about it?

I like building my 1/72 because they are cheap to buy And the selection is growing each month nearly with new releases, and well i always have built 1/72 models only built about 4 models ever in another scale.

......because:
1)CHEAP, I can get 3 to 4 for the price of a 1/35
2)QUICK, they don't take much time to build.
3)LESS PAINT, thats right, paint can last forever.
4)CUTE, they look so cute! specially next to their big brothers
5)FUN, they are way more fun, for some reason....

......the ugly:
1)LACK OF DETAIL, sometimes, depends on your own skill
2)PAIN TO PAINT, it is hard to paint w/o good airbrush, specially German afv.
3)LACK OF KITS, but its getting better with all the new releases
4)BAD FIGURES, 1/72 figures never satisfy me

Most of the resasons I build in this scale have already been mentioned, but one reason is that if you go to a contest/show, this field is usually very sparsely populated. Hopefully by entering more subjects in these categories, and showing what can be donw with these kits, people will lose their fears about building in such a small scale. And yes, they do look cute....LOL The price break is also a nice thing. The dio below is in 1/72. This would have taken me a whole lot longer in 1/35. Its still not completely finished, but damn near! "Q"

I build because of the transportability of the smaller kits. I have a tool box and I keep a 1/72 scale kit inside for my business trips. Additionally, the rivet counters tend to avoid nitpicking our little kits. And I just enjoy working with the 1/72 scale photoetch. It is very challenging.

Braille scale kits won't break your heart and the bank if you have a little "accident". The shelf also looks cool because all planes and AFVs are in the same scale and the size differences are very apparent (pose a 1/72 Tiger beside a Tomcat of the same scale and you'll see what I mean).

It takes less room, cheaper. And above al it's a bigger challenge. Although the market is growing, I think you have to be more creative then in 35 to get the details you want, because usually for me there is no aftermarket stuff.

I like the braille scale because it is cheaper and it allows for more opportunities to build a unique subject. It also is more of a challenge to one's skills as a modeler because braille scale is so small.

When I was a kid all I could afford were the 1/72 kits. Back then details weren't too important as long as I had fun. Besides most of them were just toy-like kits. However seeing some improved quality of 1/72 kits today I might give some braille Shermies a try

I started doing braille scale mostly because of the reasons cited above, but also just for a change of pace from 1/35. After working on 72nd T-34 or Panzer III, going to a 1/35 scale version seems so much easier because the of the parts being larger and I know the "shape" of the beastie ever so much better. Like Major Rob, I like the portability - I plan on taking a 72nd kit or two (or three!) with me when I go on vacation to Colorado in September... kits, tools, and paints can fit in a medium-size tackle box with no problems.
