Just wondering if the T2K (Original) ribbons ever got awarded, and thought I would find out the status of the current T2K stuff.
I am, dreaming of course, working on a few new T2K items, since I finished my entry for the Mid-east T2K. They are,
- T-72 ROBAT (like the US Panther II)
- SU-130 (T-62 or T-72 TD)
- T-120 (M1A1-2 turret on T-72 chassis...this was a accident when I put a M1 turret on a T-72 chassis I was working on and said "Hey! That looks kinda cool".)

You're not dreaming Jacques - I need new (or the old) Ribbon concepts to resubmit for awarding. I don't have the original files.
Perhaps a brand-new design would be more expedient...
As soon as I get the new award(s) - I can pass them on to Jim for uploading and assignment.

Howdy fellas,
Wow, it's really funny that you guys are bringing the T2K subject to the forefront. Just last night before logging off I read through the last page of the '04 thread just to see were everything was left off at.......
and now, Pop!, here it is.
Yeah, I was just readmiring Gunnie's 'Pocomax(?)' BMD based stunner last night and went to bed trying to think up new combinations. Apparently Jacques has already done some 'thinin' on the subject.
Gunnie, in regards to the T2K '03 Ribbon. My thought is, contact flitzer. He is obviously a superbly talented Ribbon/Banner designer, and the ad hoc Armorama 'whip up a goodie' man. I'm pretty sure his creative talents could help us out.

Was there actually a campaign to sign up for the T2K '04 build????
I built a Canadian F-117, and submitted pictures to the T2K '04 thread, but never really saw a campaign to actually sign up for.....not that it matters, I just heard it mentioned about being an actual campaign signup thing....but couldn't find one.

I signed up for the original T2K campaign and completed a German leopard. Got drafts of story line emailed to me as well. Never saw a ribbon and thought everyone forgot about it.

Nope - not gone and not forgotten. Just the way Campaigns are submitted and accepted changed right at that time...
T2K:2004 will be resubmitted by myself in accordance with the new standard. The "enlistment" allows me to award ribbons now, but I'd like to confirm with Jim the possibility on just using one Campaign Page and the flexibility to award different "year" ribbons.
More word on that idea when I have more information. I'm trying to avoid creating yearly T2K pages if at all possible...

Howdy fellas,
Flitzer...look's great! I knew I remember seeing one. Glad you found it, and it looks dandy just the way it is. Just need to address the 'year' thing.
to Gunnie: I know I'm going to come off sounding a little sophmoric, and possibly a tad selfish here but, I have been hanging onto a question/request about the 'Ribbons'. And this goes for all the Campaign awards. It pertains to the space available for posting one's awards/ribbons/etc. I know Jim has kindly explained the limitations on space available in everyone's 'Call Sign' box (box to the left of posts).
But.........I'm seeing a problem coming down the road on this one. Like it or not, agree with it or not, most people (just like Doctors, Lawyers, and { Ahem!} Architect's) like to display all of there various accomplishments. Call it a 'Brag' wall if you wish, but I think the vast majority of people out there enjoy this little self indulgence (kind of like displaying modeling trophies).
Anyway, not to spread any disparaging words but, most other sites (I can think of finescale.com as an example) do have the ability to display multiple awards/campaigns/GB's/ribbons/etc. And very quickly, as this site grows (didn't we jjust celebrate 5000 members?), and as more people increase their participation in the hobby, and in this site in particular, people are going to predictably want to start building their own 'Brag' walls.
So, not that you already don't have enough to do, can you look into some method to 'fix' this small flaw?
Maybe we can just start putting them all in our 'Signature' box.......or is that not possible?
And on a purely selfish note, I would really like to see people like 'Roo or animal, who are fairly prolific modelers get their fair share of 'instant' recognition!
to viper29: Yep. Saw your 'Canadair' entry.....loved it! Especially your unique display arrangement.....nice. Since you may not be up to speed with the original T2k '03 long, long, long thread.
I breached the idea of using commercially endorsed vehicle's (ala Blade Runner) into the T2K storyline.
I toyed with the idea of including Fed Ex logo adorned transcontinental convoy escort vehicles, and USPS labeled low-level air cover aircraft to fly an overlapping pony express style method of keeping the convoy safe from marauding highwaymen and/or Russkies.
Sinceour good GIB has given us a fairly loose hand in the interpretive portion of the storyline, I'm hoping to in fact incorporate it into my '04 build list.
to animal: Can't wait to see what you build!!

Hmmm...
I think Jim's placement of Ribbons on each member's Profile Page is already the best place to put these decorations. I think loading a great number of these, albeit small, files into a field like the Signature Block to appear on every post a member makes in a thread might make our Forum structure unwieldy for the software to load quickly.
When we touched upon the Merit Badge System, I imagined something different from the current system of Campaigns/Ribbons. I thought it would be nice to have a set of Medals that members could earn representing Armor/AFV, Naval Warships, Figures, Dioramas, and Aircraft - mimicing our site's focus breakdown. Young members, new members, and the old timers could then build subjects in these focus areas and earn Merit Badges.
If the idea caught on, there could even be an award structure based on Junior, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Master levels based upon scope and skill of the completed model. As a higher level of skill is displayed, the Monitor could replace the previous Medal with the next higher level. This might have been good for the AGE Campaign idea, just on a broader level.
Most of the members appear to really like "collecting" these ribbons and medals. Though Campaigns begin and end, the opportunity to "earn" that award is finite. With Merit Badges, there is no time limit. Of course, I think like an Eagle Scout, there should be only one badge per site focus. The Campaigns could exist as they are presently. And, perhaps, the Merit Badge System might involve smaller ribbons that spotlight a particular mastery of a skill or technique - i.e. seam filling on aircraft models, shading and highlighting figures, etc...
If we'd lean towards creating a "brag board" on a member's Profile Page, I think it would be nice to have emphasis on modeling techniques and skills that others could click on when seeking advice and such. Maybe even a ribbon or medal that is given to Site Contributors who post articles, news items, and accepted Features/On Display Features...
Just some more thoughts...

Hey Tread,
Actually, I built the F-117 or CF-117 NightHawk, as one of those easy throw together kits to "clense the palette" so to speak between armor builds. I had every intention of making it a Canadian bird, and once I had it done, I was reading the T2K 2004 thread and thought, what the heck, it complies since its all based on fiction anyway.
So I wrote a short story on the CF-117, as to how and why it and the Canadians became involved on the Korean front, and made it my entry into T2K 2004.
It was a nice diversion from the Armor kits I normally build.
I had some minor accidents with it, like the left tail section not wanting to stayed glued into place....well that and me knocking it off, and then I dropped it nose first breaking off the usual antenas that you find on the nose of a F-117.....but alas, its a CF-117, and all those antenae were removed from the Canadian version.....at least thats my story and I am sticking to it!!! LOL.

Howdy.
Understood Gunnie. Your idea's sound great, and well thought out.
I'll just shut up now..........
to viper29 I understand the "cleansing of the palate" remark. I too have a Testor's B2 bomber kit that is sitting just to my left that would take about six minutes to build if I kept the landing gear folded up.
It would be an easy one for sure. In fact, it's slated for one of my T2K '04 entries. I have found some great decals of both the United States Postal Service, and FedEx that are just the right scale for my project.
Just need to make sure I'm not steppin' on some T2K storyline toes......
Hope you don't mind, but I might even steal your nifty idea of how you deployed yours......
regards,
Tread.

Glad I brought this up.
1st: I am gald to see that interest still abounds. Thought we may have played this one all out. I am assuming that interest will grow again once temperatures start cooling...heh heh heh.
2nd: Hey! I like my Brag wall. It keeps me motivated AND I do not have to "beat out someone else" like at some of the shows to get a award...I just compete against myself and the calander. I say we allow a huge number of medals and ribbons...! (Yes, i know how much work goes into it all. I just think it is all worth it!)
3rd: Thanks for finding the ribbon Flitzer. Is this supposed to have clusters for multiple entries too...? (Hey, I entered all those russkie vehicles... )
4th: Finally, Gunnie are we going to have a seperate place to post our finished entries for 2004? I already have that BTZ done for 2004 but it is buried only Jim and God know where (heh heh) . I have a few more I plan to add, but thought that maybe a central posting place would be best, if possable. Of course, with my luck, there already is such a place and I'm just venting hot air...
Oh yeah, finally hit 700 posts. (yeah)

Peter is working on Medals with different colors (by year) and two medals per year (one basic and one with clusters for multiple entries).
I think a T2K Gallery might be best for entries - since things do get buried pretty quickly here in the Forum threads. That would work best if I get images via e-mail and then upload them to the Gallery. To keep it manageable - lets keep in-progress stuff in the Forum Threads, and save the Gallery for the completed model.

Gunnie, if you want I could start a folder for the T2K album in my gallery and we can load all the completed models for that year if you want. I will e-mail you a little later with more info.

Hey Tread,
Have at it, and fill your boots. Personally I prefer to see the 1/72 or smaller scale AC in an inflight pose. Although my vision is fine, 1/72 landing gear is for the birds, so 99% of my 1/72 get the gear up. And since the F-117 is basically just it, the plane and no ordinance on the outside, I figured a couple of LGBs in transit would look cool.
The kit is OOB, except the accident with the antenae on the front, and since I left the bomb bay open, I decided to actually do it properly, as the Italeri/Testors kit has the doors actually opening to the outside of the AC, when in fact they are supposed to open to the middle....the F-117 actually has 2 small bays as opposed to one big one, So I modified the doors a bit and built a wall between the 2 bays....not that any of it can be seen unless you tip the whole display upside down!!!!!
I am planning a small dio from Vietnam with some 1/72 AC, and they will have the wheels down, God help me....lol
Basic layout is going to be a F-105 in the process of being armed, and an OV-10 Bronco taxiing by.
Basically the observation plane taxiing out to start the mission to mark the targets, with the F-105 being armed to follow it out to strike the targets. I have a Verlinden Aircraft Reventment set that I have had for awhile...as well as the Hasagawa 1/72 aircraft arming kit with the tractors and such. Thought it would make a cool dio that wouldn't take up a huge amount of space. Will have to get one of those magnifying headbans to do the tiny landing gear.

please find first sets of medals.
I've gone for a simple 1, 2, 3, 4 to denote No. of entries...but am working on an alternative...
More soon and comments and views are vital...
Thanks and cheers

using black bars on the gold top bar.
Ithink this is the better method...

Howdy flitzer,
As usual superb job. I would have to say I prefer the 'bars' version.
About the only thing I can suggest to add to your excellent work would be something frilly, or a bit delicate.....maybe a border of lace or taffeta?......
Tread. :-) :-) :-)
Just pullin' you leg Peter.

I too would choose the black stripes on the gold bar as well.
Also, just as a alternative, you could try gold dots (pips) on the ribbon as well...not sure how this would look, but it was a thought....kinda like Oak leaf clusters for modern US ribbons.
And thanks for all the work so far...not something I have the ability to do, as my image link shows!! :-)

Hi... :-)
Oh really....how about some French windows and a patio while we're at it... :-)
You can always bribe me...lol. No just kidding...If you wish, add your name to my list and I'll see what I can do.
I chose the bars over the dots/cluster things as the ribbon already had the year and thought it might be a little crowded.
Cheers
Peter

About the only thing I can suggest to add to your excellent work would be something frilly, or a bit delicate.....maybe a border of lace or taffeta?

I like the black bars too. Frilly stuff?!? Only for the "Red Team" entries...

Glad to see this thread is getting some action. I have the SA-2 finished and am getting ready to get back in the blue fold. I admit I slipped up the flying telephone pole was too cool not to build. Almost ready to dive in a try to scratch an ultra light from Arkansas. I'll check this thread for a gallery to sent pics to.
Thanks everyone. This is too much fun.
