Hi guys
I could use some more help with my DUKW. I've read in some articles about drain plugs on the side of the vehicle. My problem is I don't know what they look like. If anyone has a picture or a web site showing them it would be a big help.
Thanks in advance.

Some folks have been "ragging" on me to post some pictures. I am very happy to anounce that the problem of no digital cam will soon be solved. I should be able to get some pics up in a couple of weeks.

If you are building the older version of the DUKW say for around the D-Day time frame there were no drain holes in them. They were introduced in the second generation and after because of the problems encountered in the early version. I hope this will help you. I think that Cliff may have more info on this subject to help you out.

Wolfsix,
As Animal has already said, the drains were a later addition made after WWII when it was found that the raised ribs on the sides of the vehicle were holding water and rusting out. The drains are slots cut into the ribs to allow the water to drain. They are easily visible in the photos below.

If you want a post WWII DUKW, they are fine to leave. For a WWII vehicle, simply fill them in with a little filler putty and sand smooth.
