Recently I saw a LVT-4 with a Jeep on the bay, I guess it was able to transport some thing like a Jeep weightwise, but was that application used during landing on a contested beach,
I'm not sure it was ever used to do that, mainly because there was special landing ship to transport vehicle
Is there anything some one can say about that application.
Thanks in advance
Aldo

welcome to armorama, u've come to the right place.
The LVT 4 was an improved LVT 2 With the engine moved forward and a ramp added at the rear for easier loading and unloading, giving the LVT 4 the capability to carry cargo such as jeaps and artillery. This was the most prolific of the series with over 8000 produced, four times as many as the LVT 2. Like the LVT 2, the LVT 4 was developed from the pre war Roebling tractor, used in the florida everglades. Propelled in the water by it's tracks, one problom was that the flotation chambers gave the vehicle a high silhouette so it was easier to target,(espesialy with a jeep on it ). And I guess the british (calling it the buffalo) Crossed the Rhine river in 1945 with it also. I hope I could help. have fun
