This is going to be a very vivid story here. I like the way you have set it up so far. One question though, what type of weapon is the machine gunner carrying?

I think you have done a great job painting the figures. Is the VC figure from a kit or is it scratchbuilt. How did you acheive the color and weathering on the radio mans packs and pouches I cant seem to get it to look right a few hints would be nice. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, the machine gun is a M-63 stoner, with a drum magazine of 100 linked bullets, a very popular weapon for seals patrols in vietnam

Thank you very much.
The VC figure is one of the Dragon DML NVA sappers runnig ones, with the head of another figure of the same kit, new arms from the scrap box, and the feet from a figure of Dragon Vietcong box.
The packs and pouches are painted mainly with Vallejo acrylic paint "russian uniform" and "khaki" with lights and shadows, and a very very very light wash (90% water)of acrilic "raw umber" for "blending".

Sweet! This is looking very good. Where did you get the prisoner and the water buffalo? Are they scratchbuilt? I really like the water buffalo, been thinking on scratchbuilding one since I can't seem to find one already made. "HINT HINT TO COMPANIES"

Thanks, about the figures, all from Dragon DML, see the previus posts for the VC (from "NVA sappers" kit), and the seals are from "seals 2" kit, with the beret head from old Tamiya figure of land rover ambulance kit, and the "pirate" machine gunner head from Dragon "MACV-SOG" kit .

Thank you Brad.
The VC prisioners is a Dragon "NVA sappers", see the previus post for details.
The base for buffalo is a donkey of Dragon "German montain troops" or " German paras with donkey". I made the body wider with a 3 mm plasticard sheet between the two body parts, cut the neck of the donkey for a better look, and put on a lot of epoxy putty, looking always at pictures of buffalos at internet. The ears are the same of the donkey, looking down. You can see the feet are not the ones of a buffalo, because they will be invisible in the high grass.
After look for all the 1/32 cows in the market, all of they monsters beside the seals, I had to made my "don-ffalo". But I am very glad with it.
Come on, make a try, and good luck.

WOW, that looks great!
What kind of brushes are you using to get such sharp points on the Tiger Stripe? Are they Tamiya HF brushes?
Is this for a Campaign?

Thanks, this dio is not for Campaign, is there any one on march about the theme of my dio ????
And about the brushes, I used an old one 10/0, with a very sharp point, and very diluited acrilic paint.

Fantastic work on the camo, Csago. Loved the buffalo. I've worked with these buffaloes before and I have to same you've captured the essence. The legs are not too bad and resemble closely those of a buffalo although the right front leg is slighty too forward at the ankle, but it doesn't matter since you will be covering them with grass.
Slap on some mud on the back and torso and you can pratically hear it "moo". The bandoliers are very nicely painted. Did that come with the kit too?
Really looking forward to the finished dio.

extremely nice dio, my only thing is that the radio operator is carrying an a1/a2 with a 203, wich would have only been used in the early 80's and up, just my 2 c
They used M203s in Nam. They earlier test versions were known as XM148, but later in the war they did end up with an actual M203. I got a picture in one of my Nam ref books of a guy holding a rifle just like the one that Radio guy is holding. It says it was taken in October 1969.

Stunning work again Santiago. Your figure painting is excellent and make any scene ... even when not finished ... look real. Kit bashing never appealed so much. Its amazing what can be done with the same box of figures and a bit of imagination. This dio will stand really proud beside your previous seal dio. I love all what you have done here, especially how you have used the kit supplied heads and yet given them all their own identity. Looking forward to more!

Thanks for your comments, from a man who known of the real buffalos looks...
About the bandoliers, if you mean the ammunition belts of the stoner machine gunner, they are from Dragon DML "Seal 1" kit ( there is a figure with such a ammo belts in this kit), but the body of the gunner is not from "Seal 2" kit, but from Dragon "Marine Recon" .
There is much more better ammunition belts in Dragon "Vietnam weapon set", but I used all my stock in the M-60 gunner of my LSSC and Seals diorama "Delta wolfes" you can see at "On Display" at diorama main page of this web; so I had to used the others ones, easier to fix to the body of the gunner, but with less details ...
Thanks for all.

Yes, like Bracomadar says, the m-203 was used in Vietnam (the last years, of course, 1969-70-71), not only for US troop, but Australian too, mainly Aussies Special Air Service (ASAS), there is a lot of pictures of ASAS with the m-16/m-203 combination, and US NAVY SEALS, LRRP Rangers and regular infantry troops with the same weapon.
Thanks for yours kind comments

Great looking color on the figures, is that cork being used as the base. Good animal interaction.

I, too, vouch for the M-16A1/M203 combo. While regular units used the XM-148, SEALs had procurement priority so they'd get the new toys first. I do love the variaty of weapons not often shown in dio. Especially the G-3 (or CEMTE?), and AKs aren't seen much. I also love the smoke (CS?) grenades on the back of the radio. Even the radio itself is washed and drybrushed superbly to show the details. Everything looks so realistic, I almost think its fake. Great job.

About G-3, is the one of Italeri old kit of modern weapons, and yes, the G-3 looks like an old cetme.
The grenades of the rto´s back are all of smoke type, CS ones were light grease (see the back of rto at my Seal Team Patrol at Mekong Delta diorama "On Display", there is one of this CS).
Still hard work with groundwork, river water and "wheathering" soldiers and buffalo.
Glad to see somebody who knows about vietnam us special forces¡¡¡¡

I knew it had to be a G-3 but the fact that G-3s are essentially Heckler & Koch CEMTEs and given the vast proliferation of weapons by SF, ARVN, and VC forces, I couldn't be sure. I did forget to mention the AKs and LAWs look awesome too. I also figured it was smoke by the color bands, but except for the colors painted and the fuse, most people wouldn't recognize CS (which is tear gas for those feigning ignorance ) from a smoke grenade (obviously the operator would want to know the difference too before he pulled the pin :-) - wait that ain't smoke!
