does anyone know if this book is out of print?
i and my favorite online retailer have been unable to obtain a copy, althought the 'modelling the tiger tank' book can be easily obtained.

Yep its been out of print for a few years now. It has become one of those long sought after books that people pay un reasonable amounts of money for on ebay. There is one right now on ebay going for around 50 USD. Its a good ref book but not worth anywhere near that much.

Bryan

No, Joe and Bryan are talking about the book published by Ampersand, the same company that publishes MMiR and the Allied-Axis series.
The original lacked turret details. Rumors have been flying around for quite a while that they were going to add the missing turret information and reprint the book. I'm still waiting ...
BTW, I have the Osprey book and it is of limited value. It has a couple nice projects in it, but there are a few glaring errors and some of the projects involve parts that are very hard to find.

thanks for the info gents
ralph, like bob, i dont really rate the osprey sherman book either. one title that i do find useful is 'tanks in detail-M4 sherman and firefly' some nice photos that dont get published often.
i picked it up cheaply for around £6.
cheers

I will concur that the MMiR Modeler's Guide to the M4 Sherman is infinitely better than the Osprey Modelling Manual #14 M4 Sherman.
I bought my MMiR book for around $18 or so from Squadron when it first came out. While it is a highly recommended book, it is not worth the $50+ some people are buying them for. It is not the end all, be all for the Sherman modeler, but does help shake out all the mystique regarding the hull, spension and tracks.

Well, books are quite rare here in our country so I can't tell if it's OOP :-)
BTW, greatbrit, have you done the templates for the Sherman headlight guards?

ralph,
those headlight guard templates are proving tricky to reproduce(with my poor IT abilities) in a large enough format to be of any use.
how about i send you the DML fret, that way you could use it direct to make your own from foil etc?
PM me your address and ill post them to you, dont worry about postage, it would only be a small amount anyway
cheers

Do you got a scanner? Try to scan them but be sure to give me the exact length and width of the fret. That way, I could resize the image and it's a print away - the same thing I do whenever I buy a PE. Just scan them, save the dimensions, and viola! Got a template for another kit of the same type.

The Tiger book just came out a few months ago but the Sherman one has been out for years. My local dealer can't give away the Tiger books. He has at least a dozen in stock as of last month.

Correct. I bought it one day for something to read, and was dissapointed. Although some of the built models look cool, most of them are built by long OOP resin add ons, and then there is a very poor description of techniques used.
As Joe recommended the Tanks in detail 6 - medium sherman (76mm and 105mm) and firefly is an excellent book. Very interesting to read and actually made me consider buying more from the series.

Hmmmmm, I just recently (kinda) saw the MMiR Sherman book sitting on the shelf of a Role Playing 'Gamer' shop here locally. I can only assume it's cover price.............
Maybe I should just stop on by..........
