Just a thought...
I understand the normal method with chalk pastels is to mix it with water and a drop of dish soap.
I wondered if anyone has tried mixing the pastel dust with enamel thinners?
Cheers
Peter

the chalk thins down with water and can be painted on. I think you would need oil pastels to thin with thinners.

Hi Cliff
you are probably right...
however in the interests of science and without the aid of a safety net I'll give it a try tonight on a bit of scrap...in fact I've got a junked painted wing somewhere....hmmmm.
Cheers mate

The only thinner I?ve used and worked (on top of water) is ispropylic alchool... I've tried with several other thinners for enamel and oils but without any success...

I have used artist turpentine with chaulk pastels before and they work well....its a little thicker than water, makes more of a smoother slurry than straight water does.
Something else you can do with them, if you want to show like a fuel spill on an AFV or something, take Tamiya Clear, paint it on where you want to show the spill, and then lightly sprinkle on some pastel when the clear is still wet, it will mix with the clear, and once dry will look like a dried fuel spill
