Hey all-
Is the lower hull of the M88 based on the M60 series of tanks? I wanted to build the M88 as my next scratchbuild and thought I could kill two birds with one stone if I got the M60 (I need the 105mm gun for my Project X build). Thanks.

No, sorry. It is a purpose built hull that uses the running gear from the M48 series of tanks. Why not just get the AFV Club M88? It is a great kit.

Unfortunately, I would but I was hoping for a braille scale Hercules. Oh well, just have to wait until my skills get better.

What's your starting point? If it is the Revell M60A3, then you are good to go with the running gear (steel road wheels are the same, sprocket is close enough). Tracks would not be proper unless you picked up the ex-Esci Italeri M48A2/3 kit.

Both the M60 and M88 are based off of the M48 chassis. The M88 was based off of the M48A2 and the original M60 prototype was a modified M48A2 as well. You would have to completely scratchbuild an M88 hull. Both share many common components and the engine of the M88A1 could be used in an M60A1 or M60A3. The M88A1 engine had a PTO that powered the main winch so you could not use the M60A1/A3 engine in the M88A1.

Marcel, thanks for the link. Rob, the Revell m60a3 was going to be my start point and the info you gave means that I just might be able to build a Herc after all. Thanks.
