Hi all,

Upon request I'm going to do an attempt to build a Heavy machine gun universal carrier (my first allied piece in eons).

Eventually it has to end up somewhat like this:

It's a carrier that served for the Brigade Piron.

I have the Tamiya Universal carrier MkII kit and the Resicast Vickers.

My question is, has anyone build the universal carrier from Tamiya, if so anything special?
What colours are needed (pref. Humbrol)?

kris,

the tamiya carrier is a nice little kit, but it has tow main problems, the tracks and the front hull plate.

the tracks are only detailed on one side. modelkasten do a set if you want to replace them, but they will cost you more than the kit itself. and the links are tiny!

the front hull plate is far to thick. it scales out to around 4' thick, when the real thing was around 20-30mm.

thinning it down is tricky due to the detail on it, but it can be done, otherwise its only really apparent when looking straight at it, and doesnt detract much from the finished model.

cheers

Ciao crossbow,
It is a great little kit, and finishes well. I think that all the sides were too thick and, if you plan on using the figures with it, they cannot be installed once the kit is completed (their arms and legs interfere with them being installed.) Other than that, (and the things mentioned by Joe) it's a nice kit.
Ciao for now

Cheers mates
I just started building my own universal carrier. Seems like a nice kit. I'm adding the eduard PE-set and model kasten tracks. I think I'm too lazy to replace the front plate. Btw, I found a couple of pages when I searched for info about this kit, that can be usefull:

I'll get some pics of my model to my gallery when it's finished.

It seems to me that Resicast used to make an update set for the carrier ...Maybe they still do ..you should look into it ..

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies up to now.

So I better check the kit to the real stuff...

I've already been contemplating about the MK tracks, but I'll see if I need the Eduard PE also.

The armor seems indeed a bit thick, but I don't think I'm going through the hassle of sanding it down.

So studie the kit contents now and take some pictures sunday for reference.

I'll post the progress pics.
