The horror...the horror! I almost had my half-finished dio of Hue pulled off the shelf by my little niece the other day. Now I'm just paranoid. That really sucks about those dios. I don't care what anyone says, models can't get glued back.

Well, that sucks. That dio was one of my personal favorites. The paint was just too cool. Anyone have a photo link to "Tankenstein?" I googled it and came up empty.

Well guys, you may think I'm a bit weird, but:
I couldn't stand the thought of this piece of art disappearing forever so I took drastic measures. I emailed Barry & requested the bits & pieces be mailed to me instead of trashed. Barry agreed ( must think I'm a nut! #:-) ) to send them off to me, so at some point in the future I may post pics with some bits of "Bracketed" as part of my build. Not a fitting enough tribute, but the best I can do!

Like many others, this (Bracketed) was always one of my favorites..,. not only for the excellent work, but also the unique concept.... what a true shame.
Still - I ship finished works all over the world (literally!) and have learned the secret to safe transport... that answer is EXPANDING FOAM.... I have posted this before, but will share again:
1) Mount the diorama to a piece of wood (a few screws into the bottom of the base will do).
2) Place this inside of a cardboard boxha (the "inner box{) and-fit small "styro peanuts" to support any particular weak or delicate pieces. The pour peanuts over the entire unit to fill the box.
3) place newspaper over all exposed areas and tape in place.
4) spray a thin sheet or two of expanding foam spray over the paper. This will soon harden in a while, producing a strong shell.
5) Use a marks-alot to indicate "top/bottom" and where delicate items are located. This way the person receiving the kit will be able to carefully pay attention while unwrapping on the other side of the world.
6) Now enclose this entirely with the top of the inner box.
7) Nest this box inside of a larger box, using shredded paper and more peanuts. Spray a layer or two MORE of the foam around this box, and allow it to harden.
8) Seal this box, with a sheet of instructions telling the person how it is packaged, and where to be careful when unpacking.
I usually tell them to use a sharp xacto blade to cut away the hardened shell. I have shipped like this for several years, and have rarely had a single figure reported as damaged.

While I was absolutely shocked at this, my mind, working in the morbid humorous way that it does, found an inheriant irony in the fact that "Bracketed" was obliterated. I guess the Japs found their mark

The Humanity!
I feel his pain...
I sold some armor on e-bay a bit ago and one guy commissioned me to rebuild his A7V. Did the job, boxed it up (double boxed, lots of peanuts) and I get his e-mail.
The box arrived totally smashed! The entire kit crushed. I felt so bad I offered to send him back his check -
Bottom line its the Neanderthals in the post office, UPS, FED-EX, etc who don't give a crap and toss boxes around just to see if they can hear it break.
Next time its aircraft aluminum with custom injected foam padding. I hope the buyer doesn't mind the $175.00 for shipping and handling.

that is very true, because they couldnt afford to waste time nor do they bother to slowly and GENTLY place the mails.
Luck plays a part too. If your parcel falls in the hands of an extremely pissed off cos he was ticked by boss guy... GOD BLESS! :-)
