Hi all

I need help guys. First, I don't know how to post a pic from one site to this one. So please follow this
address http://www.kmk-scaleworld.be/walkaround/DUKW/image75.html

See the item on the passenger side wall that looks like a cross between a canteen and a headlight ? Does anyone what this is ? I think its a hand held light of some kind, but I need to know for sure. Any information would be a big help.

Thanks

See the pistol grip on it with the wire coming off it - I bet its a hand held search light.

I must agree with Slodder:
Without knowing what type of vehicle we're looking at, I would also say that it's a hand held spotlight/searchlight judging from the picture. Almost looks like a modern day "deer spotting lamp", (if you're a deer hunter)

Thinkin' about this a little more and came up with a moris code lamp to communicate with a ship - I'm guessing that this is the interior of a DUK so it would have to comm. with a 'mother' ship and that's how they would do it.

It is the hand held spot light. Same type that normally comes on the turret of Sherman kits or on the roof of the Dragon Wagon.

Remember, batteries didn't last as long in flashlights in the 1940s.

This is an US WWII AMPHIBIAN DUKW.

Just go back to the main page of this site :

Hi guys

I'm sorry guys I thought I mentioned that it was off a DUKW. I guess I got ahead of myself. Thats what I get for not proof reading my post before submitting it. Like I said, I am sorry.
Thanks for confirming that it is a handheld light. I got the main piece from off an old sherman kit. All I need is to figure out the pistol grip and mounting bracket and add it to the DUKW. Thanks again

Not to worry. I find it strange that folks question what type of vehicle it was when the link url literally says it is a "DUKW".

It is a "Combination Blinker and Spotlight". That looks very much like the one found on top of the Dragon Wagon cab minus the pistol grip.

Now if I was a betting man I would put my chips on Scotts answer. Being a comm. device to the ships, and probably also used as a search light, it gets real hard to see at night coming in on the water.

Re: Pistol Grip
The grip looks darn close to the grip on a .45. Slice the grip off one from your spares box and you ought to be in business.
If you don't have one let me know and I'll send you one.

HTH,
Shaun
