The M110A2 was more commonly referred to as the 8" howitzer. It was used by the Regular Army into the 1990s and did serve with the US during Desert Storm. I am unsure when it went out of service in the National Guard. They used the 8" longer than the Regular Army.

The 8" was used in the counter battery mission (shoot at the enemy artillery after you figure out where they are). It was replaced by the MLRS.

The 8" was a common sight during my days in Germany. I used to pity those guys rolling round exposed in the wintertime.

Old 8" barrels became the body of the bunker busting bombs used by the Air Force.

Basic M110 was used in Vietnam, but not M110A2. M110 had shorter barrel and no muzzle brake.

Hi, we meet again

The M110 was used in Vietnam, along with the M107. The M110 used in Vietnam was the short barrel version. IIRC their entry into service was:
M110 in 1963
M110A1 in the late 1970s (77-78 not sure)
M110A2 in the early 1980s (82-84 not sure)

The M110A2 was used by both the US Army and USMC in ODS (Operation Desert Storm).

Look here for a walk-around of the M110A2 in NL service plus some photos of it in US and UK service: http://tanxheaven.com/m110a2/m110a2pic.htm

As far as I know the M110A2 is or has(?) been phased out, not sure.

No changes to plastic parts at all are needed, as Revell's kit is just an Italeri kit with different decals and tracks. So you only need US Army markings and unfortuately tracks. These can be difficult to get, as no aftermarket tracks for M107/M110 vehicles were ever produced. You would have to find some from Italeri M107 or from one of their M110 releases. Tracks in your kit are useless anyway, even for German version! For some uncomprehensible reason Revell included Diehl type tracks from their M109G model in M110A2 kit, but these tracks are too long for M110! At least I got such tracks in my Revell kit. It is simply impossible to properly attach them to the M110 model, unless you cut them short. But even then they would not be correct as Bundeswehr used different type of Diehl tracks on their M110A2s, than those used on M109G...

The bad news is that Vodnik is correct. Those are the wrong, Diehl tracks and there are (to my knowledge) no AM tracks available.

Also if you are to use Diehl tracks the sprocket / final drive is different. For the US version you have a final drive with 11 teeth. For the European version (with Diehl tracks) the final drive is slightly wider and has 12 teeth (see photos below). The US M109 has 10 teeth (unsure of the European version with Diehl tracks).

If you are not a purist then, the good news is that they are sort of close, approximate width, look etc… (in 1/35 scale that is), also the Revell tracks do (accidentally) fit the final drives of the kit, but are too long and need to be cut and then reattached. This is your main problem.

With the Revell kit (if you are not a purist) you can still build an approximate UK M110A2 in ODS (I think one of the M110 kits has decals for this.)

From: http://tanxheaven.com/m110a2/m110a2pic.htm Note the MERDEC camouflage on this vehicle!
