I was in an art store and they were selling broken pastels (dry) for 10 bucks Can. I bought them and tried putzing around with them on an old model. Holy %^&$!! They are incredible they seem far more realistic than paint when dry brushing and given enough I can even fade out colours. Now I need to know what colors do I need and technique. Sorry for the rampant enthusiam; but this is teh first technique that I've tried and gotten instant results..unlike face painting

I know how you feel. I used them for the first time a few months ago. Really cool.

I love em too Padrino as nearly all here do too!!! :-)
I was not fortunate as you with that great sounding deal but, I invested in earth tone colors (browns, tans, etc...) as well as various shades of greens. A black and a white too for good measure.

As far as colors go, I have a set of pastels that range from black to light tan with all the dark brown and orange colors in between. As Ken said, these are the earth tone colors and should be all you need. You may use other colors I guess if you want to combine pastels for highlighting or shadowing...kinda like paint. When I use mine, I just scrape off a pile of fine pastel dust from the stick using a screwdriver and then use an old brush (that I've labeled for pastels) to transfer the fine dust to the model.

Pastels are great!

There's nothing like using dust to make dust on a tank!!

You can mix ground pastels with water to get some cool effects.

Bryan, thanks for the explanation on usage. I've heard people talking about using pastels, but didn't really know how they were using them. This topic would be a great little "How-To" for newbies like me, if anyone cared to expand on it.

Cheers,
Mike
