After reading the masking thread about the King Tiger I have what might be a silly question. I am ready to paint the cammo on my own King Tiger. I know that the camouflage paint was field applied in many cases. I am assuming they had the turret facing forward when the camouflage was applied. My question is this: Does the camouflage extend under the turret or would it be dark yellow. That is, did they rotate the turret to extend the camouflage pattern to the sections of the deck that where covered by the turret while it was facing forward when the initial camouflage paint was applied?
Hopefully this makes some sense. I guess I never thought about it until I thought about how you would go about masking a King Tiger.

Thanks in advance.

Shaun,
I 've seen a pic of the KT with its turret traveres to the right whiulst getting sprayed so I'm sure it would also be sprayed on the deck as well to help it blend in

The factory applied hardedge camo was applied when the tank was in two pieces, namely turret and hull separate.
This can be clearly seen as with this scheme many of the spots on the turret do not extend onto the hull.

When crews applied the camo themselves they often did extend spots on the turret onto the hull.
I have some pics of KT's being painted, with the hull traversed to the side, I can only assume this was done to do what you describe.

Thanks for the speedy replies, guys. I am having a real Homer Simpson moment. I had that picture saved on my hard drive. I didn't know the hard edged camouflage was applied to the turret and chassis at separate locations, though. I will keep that in mind if I go that route.

Thanks again,
Shaun
