I've seen plenty of threads in which some of our more experienced modellers/Arty types condemn Revell for including Diehl type tracks in their 1:35 german M110. Nothwithstanding the fact that these things are apparently useless even for a German version, a quick scan through the archives netted me at least 26 members (some may have been repeats) who claim the rubberbands are useless & they're looking for an AM set. So my question is- is there a single kit out there which these things would be appropriate for use on? If so, what is(are) it(they)? If not, what are all you guys doing with these useless Diehl Tracks?

These tracks were originally included in Revell's kit of German version of M109 and are good for this howitzer. So I guess they could be used to convert one of Italeri M109 kits to German version.
Mine are just in spare parts box...

Thanks for the reply Pawel! So that's it? One kit they might be used on? were the Diehls an experimental failure or something?

Diehl is a name of German tracks manufacturer. They make a lot of various tracks for various vehicles. All German tracked vehicles use Diehl tracks now, but of course various types and sizes of them. This particular type as was included in M110 kit is in reality used only on M109 howitzers. But German M110s also used Diehl tracks, just not the same type as those in Revell's M110 kit.

Sorry, Pawel, I actually knew that what i meant was why did this TYPE of Diehl track only wind up on one vehicle, when several chassis might fit them. I guess you answered that though. I was just wondering if there might be someone who could put all of those extra M110 kit tracks to use. Guess not

I'm wondering what Revell do when people who bought their kit contact them asking for replacement of tracks which don't fit their kits. Maybe they send original US style Italeri tracks as replacements?...

I just checked on Diehl website, that M109 tracks are in their catalogue designated as Diehl Systemkette Nr.: 109.1 & 109.2. This quite clearly shows that they are only good for M109 family vehicles.

Well, Canadian M109's use the Diehl type also, British ones too, IIRC. All those incorrect M110 tracks may find a home somewhere!

So now figure out who is using the M109, M578 or M992 FAASV.
This is true that M109 and M578 use Diehl tracks in Dutch Army service, but not the same type!
M578 is based on M110 suspension, so it uses the same type of Diehl tracks as M110, not M109. This means that to build Dutch M578 model you would need tracks that were NOT included in Revell's German M110A2 kit...
But you are right about FAASV - I don't know who uses them with Diehl tracks, but indeed tracks from M109 would be fine for such application.
