Operating upon the supposition that I am inept and maladroit while painting, what suggestions would you omniscient beings have about using primer before painting models such as:
- B17F with Oive Drab Base coat
I plan on trying to hand paint the camo scheme on with Dark green. I'm not planning on painting the whole plane, only the portions I'm using modeling putty and the places where I will do the camo.
- P38J with Silver or Aluminum base coat
It's a silver plane with some really bad fits. More putty and primer with the over all body painted in aluminum. I'm just guessing because I know little about building planes.
- King Tiger with Dunkelgelb base coat
Can- spray with Dunkelgelb and hand painted with Red Brown and some sort of green. Not sure if it should be olive drab, forest green, or dark green.
No pictures yet because:
1. They aren't painted yet
2. I need to cover my mistakes with paint, putty, and even more paint
3. An autistic preschooler could do a better job with lincoln logs and a good supply of boogers.

I have only done armor but I always prime with black before painting. I can then alter the shading on various parts of the vehicle by spraying more or less final coat to either completely cover the black or let some show through.

I usually use a lighter color for a primer because the dark ones can be difficult to cover. It is especially hard if your trying to cover a dark primer with a light color. I know some of the people here are good at pre-shading, but as I am not comfortable with the technique, I go with the lighter primer.

I tend to prime with matt white if the base coat is a light colour, and light grey if a darker colour.

For aircraft I prefer to use white primer, and for armour grey primer. I use either Model Master or commercial spray primers.

I tend to use Matte (Flat) white or Grey as a primer......
Grey Auto primer if there's lots of sanding scuffs
