Has anybody seen a diorama with figures crossing a field of wheat(or similar)?
I´m thinking about making a vignette with max three figures crossing a field. I´m just thrilled by the idea of a golden yellow field and the guys making "paths" as they go...
I would just like to see if this theme has been around somewhere!

Hi,

The only similar one I saw it's with a Tiger and a Panther (I'm not 100% sure about the tanks).

Here is a dio showing a KingTiger-Crew in a wheat field. (Hope the link works well):

I did it the way Tuga mentioned in his post.

Hi Ralf

YAHOO servers, as some others, do not allow direct links for the images, so it's not your fault the link hasn't work.

PS: Put lhe link for the page where you have the diferent albums and it works - http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rgellings - .

PPS: Very nice figures you have there.

Thanks for the links!
I thought I saw those dios somewhere before...
There is a problem with the long, yellow model grass: it has nothing in the ends. That´s okay as long as you try to make it look like a field of hay. But with wheat, there should be the thicker part with the seeds at the end of it...I don´t like the idea of scratchbuilding those one by one #:-) Or maybe a mixture of model hay and real stuff from mother nature would work...
My goal is to make a very even field to make those paths pop up from there.

Thanks again!
Toni

Here in the south of Portugal there are a small wild plant with the upper part wider and that looks like wheat plants, perhaps you can find some similar out there.

Here´s a sketch for "Fields Of Gold". Maybe I´ll just play some Sting while doing this...

I had a Dragon German figure set in mind for this...
It could make a nice little project!

Hi Toni - Man .........that's an excellent sketch !
I wish I could draw like you ! You got some real artistic talent !
That's the best way to go when planning a dio..........to
do exactly as you did.
I do this to, but although I know I can model, my sketches
aren't no where's as good as your's.
....This is even more the better to bring sketches as part
as your diorama's "brag sheet "/presentation when enetering competition's.
Judges notice things like that. - Especially when they're good as your's
To be a modeler and an artist ....Man, you are truly Blessed !

Thanks screamingeagle,
it´s just my way of working really. I can´t "see" the thing ready before I draw it out. Drawing is my research. But once drawn, it usually contains all the details I will ever need to finish a dio. With every dio I´ve made so far, the sketch has been the best reference...which means, most of the inaccuracies are already in the sketch!
Do I give a damn about these inaccuracies? Maybe not. It´s just a piece of work for me and it´s more important to me that I can build it close to the picture in my head.
Of course, things can change. Some day I may be the first in line to speak for absolute historical accuracy and make boring dioramas! (And I don´t suggest historically accurate dios are boring in general!)
#:-)

Hi Tony,

Another very fine sketch.

You must open an album with the dio sketches that you have around on your several posts.
