Have you guys ever just given up on a model for whatever reason. I was building an italeri opel with flak. I was not to keen on the instructions and parts not being numbered (if you have bought form this company you know what I mean) then I tried to put the cabin together and I just couldn't see how it could be done..it did not seem to fit. Well I just packed the thing up and put away for spare parts. Now I feel like I didn’t give it a chance but I wanted a model not a Rubik's cube (80's reference )

No never - never leave a man behind - everyone goes home!

I've never bailed on a model, for the frustration you might encounter will teach you something new in the end. I've seen guys smash a model up against a wall in frustration. Never have come close to that feeling - I like my models too much to do something like that. Make me wonder what they'd do if something got really tough in more important aspects of life...

I think of that plane when I think I should switch from armor to something else!!!!! J/K !!! I like planes but I am better at armor... hmmmmmm........maybe that means i should practice making more planes....SO MANY KITS SO LITTLE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! At this rate I need to live to be 1000 years old so I can do all the kits I want to!!!! LOL..... #:-) #:-) ....Otto

Hi Padrino,

Probably in the future you will give it a second chance, because something happens - saw a pic or whatsoever - and you have a new motivation to go with it.

It have happened to me.

:-) :-) Welll, YES thier was... ONE. It was an Academy Tiger-1 Mid Production Kit, That had a warped upper deck. At the time I was not a memeber here nad after having tried several time to figure out how to fix the problem and failed.I finally gave up on it and got rid ot it. I should have kept it for either spare parts OR a possible completion to the delimna. OH well And thier was an F-15E Strike Eagle that was completed. BUT it's landing Gear was too weak for the body weight and eventually collapsed. SO I ended up tossing that kit too.
completely Heartbroken over it. Because I hard worked so hard at it.. And the breaks were in places where it was impossible to successfully repair.

Don't forget the trick - take the Rubics cube apart and put it together the correct way!!!!! #:-)

Ok - back to plastic - I've never bailed on a kit. I've changed the overall goal for one. i had grand plans of a diorama and then it wasnt' coming out as well as I hoped and it became static display piece.

I always thought I would never give up on a model, but recently gave up on TWO models! #:-)
I was building a Heller 1/48 AU-1 Corsair, rescribing it etc. and after yet ANOTHER mistake that would be very hard to fix, I figured this would be my scrap model to test paint on. I also chucked a Revell Germany 1/48 F/A-18A Hornet in the bin, I started rescribing that one as well and removing the control surfaces when I realized it wasn't accurate at all (and got hold of a Hasegawa Hornet )
Oh well, I hope it doesn't happen again

I dumped my first attempt at the Hemtt While not an atrocious kit even the PE from Eduard wasn't enough to keep megoing .the lack of reference at the time was also frustrating. But now with MR. Motorpool around I 've been playing with tackling a new one especially with the new esin sets for it.

I have only ever given up on one kit...a Chinese kit I picked up to pass the time when I was in China. What a piece of crap. Nothing fit right, the plastic was soft, and it looked like crap. I tossed it. Only one ever. Now I do have a couple put away, waiting for the wind to blow differently....

I have several kits "put away". I have found (as a result of being old) that when frustration sets in, it is time tomove on. I will say that I know I will go back. It's a hobby,do what makes you happy.

Not once I was building them, but there's a few kits I bough that are still sitting in the box. I'll probably never start building them. Not soon anyway. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who has unbuilt kits on the shelf...

The last model I finished (the AMT/ERTL F-18A) was the closest I came to throwing in the towel on a model. I seized the opportunity, though, and overcame the poor fit, bad decals, terrible construction and missing parts and in the process gained valuable modeling experience.

Ive never givin up on a model, not yet anyhow. I have walked away a few times
and came back later. I ve put even more up on the shelf and there they sit, til
a better idea comes along. Its the ideas that make a better modeler in the long
run your skills will improve and youll enjoy it alot more to.

Greetings, Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. The Italeri/Peerless Dodge Command Car. Once Skybow released their gem there was simply no point in continuing the torture. I may yet use it in a dio as a bit of debris, but that's all the future holds for that stinker. Scott

A recent issue of MMiR has an article on this kit, IIRC. You may want to check it out for inspiration.

When I started reading this thread, I thought "this has never happened to me..." but it HAS!

Many moons ago I got AEF's T-69 conversion and brought in ESCI and Lindberg T-55 kits to flesh it out. After much kit-bashing and scratch-building, I put it to the side. Now it gathers dust in my garage. Will I ever finish it? -- doubtful. Anyone want it? Drop me a line and I'll give you a deal.

Same thing with an old Italeri Humvee with TOW. I have too much reference and went into serious AMS with this. Anyone want to take it off my hands? I promise I haven't butchered the original kit.

Yeah... I gave up on a Fort Zis-42 halftrack. Then, guess what, some one did a review and I discovered the instructions were simply wrong... the drive train would simply not go together. I also gave up on a Techmod tank until I feel like fooling with the separate track links again. I will use the halftrack as a destroyed truck by the road someday...

Sat and thought awhile.......nope, never gave up on a model. Not once. Although there have been a few I've tried to date, but they all said "No"......Models that is.
