Did the germans have Kübelwagens in panzer grey ot is the sand sand/camo the only correct paint scheme?
I'm thinking of putting a KW in 1/48 beside a BF 109 that was in Norway in '40.
All tips appreciated...

The dark yellow color was only used after 1943. Anything produced prior to 1943 would be grey.

Thanks - Any suggestions to which shade would be right? Tamiya XF-22 (RLM Grey) or XF-63 (German Grey) (or mix)

I use XF63 for armor, but since weathering gives the color a lot of different tones, I usually mix a little white in it.

I think thats hard to find!!
The Type 62 VW Kubelwagen was a 1939 prototype and the few prototypes of the more known Type 82's appeared on december 1939.
During February - April 1940 VW tested the vehicles (11x Type 82 and 2x Type 62).
Spring 1940 the massproduction began (April 25 cars
May 100 cars, June 200 cars, Juli 275, etc...)
So, no VW kübelwagens served in Poland...
More likely it were other terrain vehicles (also mentioned as kübelwagens) like those from BMW Adler Favorit, Hanomag and perhaps Skoda.

It is true, there were no kubels in Poland, Trials started in the winter 1939-40, and production began afther waffenant approved in spring 1940. I have some Photos of that period, i will scan and posted as soon as i can. Regarding the colour, Feb 1943 based colour for all vehicles in the werhmacht and waffen ss was changed from dark grey to dark yellow. Vehicles serving in africa were over painted with a colour little bit darker than dark yellow( you can get it by adding some brown).
