This is my first topic on the dio forum but here goes, i'm trying to make a Ardennes dio but was wondering how to make a good mud effect for the ground...not on tanks/vehicles. Help appreciated.

I have used household spackle (wall putty) for mud. Spread it out and texture it as it drys. It can be made smooth like wet slick mud or add some dirt/gravel and as it drys texture it with a stiff brush.
Paint it as necessary, then if you want a shiney wet look at a gloss coat.

This was done with Perma-Scene (railroad ground cover), Lucite, and then oversprayed with Polyurethane.

G'day mate
I use Acryllic paste, its similar to wall spackle, and you simply do the same thing as Scott described, you shape it and texture it as it drys, then once it is dry, you just paint it then give it a gloss coat.
cheers
hope it helps

I use wall putty (Bostik) as ground material. Once dry I wet it with PVA water mixture (50/50), after which I pour real earth. For a wet look I normaly leave the PVA glue mixture (I usually dries clear but a little bit glossy).
